Well, despite the US not wanting this tape even shown to the jury in the inquiry it's been leaked to the public.

I can understand blue on blue hits during a hectic combat situation, but in my opinion this is just a bad call - plain and simple. They spot the orange identification panels, they have serious doubts as to the identity of the targets, nobody is asking for their immediate help but they decide to attack.

They know they've done something wrong the moment the controller advises them of friendlies.

While I have some empathy for the pilots it still seems that when they realise they've just killed a friendly their main concern is for their own future's.

True, I don't know of the full procedurs or the timescale that they had to act and make the decision to attack in but it looks to me like they were constantly checking for friendlies before firing, and were given the wrong intel which was that there were none in the area, it was only after the attack they heard there were friendlies in the sector, and it wasn't as if they didn't care either.

At least they wern't being trigger-happy Americans, just unlucky I guess.

Such is war.
