I actually have to ask at this stage, do any of you actually listen to anything that isn't mainstream, or at the very least, do you talk about anything that isn't on the mainstream? I mean I listen to a lot of things, and a lot of mainstream, but I still love stuff that isn't from the mainstream, at least it isn't where I live. I like getting people to listen to new stuff. I mean things like Stutterfly, Moment of Impact, Absolution Project, The Victim Of..., 2 Hour Parking, things like that. You may not have heard of them, but I'm wondering if anyone actually listens to stuff that is like that, you know, not mainstream. Or is that just me?

I was hoping someone would listen to other things; what kinds of bands do you listen to (mainstream and non-mainstream)? I may look up some of them if they tickle my fancy and listen to them and/or download them.

I dont think they are main stream but have you heard of Regina Spektor. Sorry if im wrong about the un-mainstream thing but I was given a song of theirs by a friend and I like them. They are like...an alternative band. Kinda odd sound but I like them... I wasnt sure at first but it grew on me.

Regina Spektor is a pretty amazing woman. Her lyrics are influential, yet her music as a whole sounds very unusual and unique. She definately adds her own pizazz into it.
Genre.. I'd say alternative, maybe indie, but she's got quite a.. laid back style. Think maybe someone like Nora Jones, but with a bit of something else.. Er..Lmao.

Hmm, probably not my normal thing, but I may look into it.
And now the ellusive question, anyone else not always follow the mainstream? If so what kinds of bands and genres... Out of idle curiosity.

Fugazi.
Fugazi is delicious. Oh my. They've been underground for a good 20 years, I believe.
If you're into indie, check out saddle creek records. They've got alot of good bands that aren't that horribly mainstream. Cursive, Bright Eyes...The Faint are signed to saddle creek.

I know Bright Eyes, pretty mainstream, my friend put me onto them, and most of my friends know them. They are alright. But indie isn't my kinda thing, interesting though.

Conor Oberst's old stuff is amazing.
Lifted... has got to be one of the best albums I've heard.
The Mars Volta is somewhat mainstream, but they're good...so is At The Drive-In...*The Mars Volta before they broke it off*

Sounds like fun. I don't go to concerts, it doesn't help that no decent bands or artists ever play round here... So meh.
