What is everyone doing this Bonfire Night?
I think I might be going to a Firework Display that my dad is putting on at a Pub. Not too sure yet.

We don't get bonfire night here... It kinda sucks. But I have been back to England a few times for it. It's fun. So basically in my case, I'll be working on some assignments.

Just out of curiosity. What is Bonfire Night all about?

Welll...
Its the aniversary of when a guy called guy fawkes made the gunpowder plot, and tried to blow up something like the houses of parliament using barrels of gunpowder. We make a huge bonfire, and traditionally make a doll of a person, call it guy fawkes, and then we burn the rag doll type thing in the bonfire. And we have fireworks, and many people eat parkin, which is like a toffee, and black peas. i dont know why we eat that we just do.

Guy Fawkes. I don't know the details, well, I do, but I don't remember off the top of my head. But basically he was some Irish dude(I think) Who tried to burn down/blow up some political powerhouse. He got caught and they burned him on a bonfire. So every year they celibrate that by creating a figure of him out of flamable materials, and make a bonfire around that with him as the centerpiece.
Sweet, in a twisted and psychopathic way really.
As you can imagine, much as Ireland shares many English hollidays, they opt out of that one.

Ok Thanx.
That does sound like a wierd thing to be celebrating though.
Ah well. Different cultures different ideas.

Its funny :D
Everyones evil, and desperately try to keep themselves warm by eating random foods that really have nothing to do with anything, and then watch fireworks. which symbolise the gunpowder explosions. But nobody really watches guy fawkes. he just burns. Nowadays the bonfire is just there as something to warm up by and to keep everyone occupied between fireworks. Oh, and also to cause hell before the night :D

I just find it interesting that you celebrate a failed attempt of treason.

I find it strange too. I dont think its celebrating guy fawkes attempting treason, i think its celebrating that they caught him before he managed to blow up an important building.
remember remember the fifth of november. gunpowder treason plot.
:D disturbing poem or what? Iv always thought so.

It's more the fact that it was a victory over the Irish, which the British lost most of. Ergo when they burnt Guy Fawkes, it was yet another victory to them. English people and Irish people hold the biggest grudge over the most petty thing.

We do.
They blew us up nearly,
We deprived them of potatoes.
Its a bit silly really.

Wonder how long it will be before America invents Benedict Arnold Day?
If people would stop holding grudges the Middleast won't be so messeds up.
As for the good news. The IRA has agreed to disband sometime within the next few years.

Actually, the potato famine was self inflicted, they continually grew potatoes and barely anything else, blight was inevitable. Of course, there are occasions where the British have helped the Irish, which are conveniantly neglected by the Irish. Ireland would have collapsed in onto itself at one point if the British had not come in with a new system for them.

The IRA disband.... Yeah, wouldn't put any money on that. And even if they do, we still have the RIRA out to kill people.

A lot of peoples did, and I can't say I blame them, better than death. But a lot of Irish people seem to think that because a few Irish people went over to America, they populated the entire country. Which isn't true. They created somewhat of a diversity. But America was already well populated.

Me and my family are going to celebrate it our own way this year. We are having some small fireworks and some sparklers and sitting by a fire in our garden roasting food and stuff:D
