I've been wanting to get my bellybutton peirced for a while now. And my mom has been really weird about the whole thing. She won't let me get it done. I've lost some weight and turned my stomach into mucsle instead of flabby-ness (lol) so I've wanted one since now I feel comfortable with it. PLUS my boyfriend said it would be hot, but I wanted one before he even said that... we had just been talking about peircings one day and he said it would be. I want to get it done but I don't know how to convince my mom to let me. Also I've heard that they can get infected really easily even a long time after you've gotten it periced. I know that can just be taken care of by cleaning it really well regularly. Also I heard that the skin never heals around it like an ear peircing does. Its always open.... is that true? Also... I've thought about doing by myself even if my mom won't let me, any tips on how to do that?

I don't know if its different here in the UK, but most piercing places will do it aslong as you look 16. I'm not encouraging you to go behind your parents back, just know thats how it is here as I know plenty of girls your age who have had theirs pierced.

Can't say I've heard many horror stories, but I'm sure there will be someone on here who can provide you with a bit more factual information :)

Don't do it yourself that's crazy, I got mine done when I was fourteen but in most places you need to have an adult with you if you're under sixteen.

A few of my friends have taken theirs out, that was a few years ago and they do still have a little scar but it's mostly healed up.

ok I got mine done when i was 13. My mum said no because she didnt like the look of them but i went to my dad and he got my step mum to take me. It was pretty easy to keep hidden...until it got to summer...then she went mad at me. so dont do it behind ur parents back.
Before i got it done and i was begging my mum i threatened to do it myself......and 4 years later they just take the piss outta me for it lol. i wouldnt have done it myself because if youre worried about infection....doing it yourself has to be the worst thing to do.

I had mine done on my 15th birthday.. Didn't hurt at all, just a little pinch. But just think if you did do it yourself? you wouldn't have the proper equiptment, numbing stuff, or the anti-infection things they give you.. My sister tried peircing her nose herself and that went ceptic, so she had to take it out. And that's JUST a nose for got sake.

And yeah, I've seen a couple of people with scars left from belly button peircings.. I suppose it depends on how long you have it in before taking it out on how big the scar might be.

Try to kiss some arse and maybe you're mum might come around? ;)

my mom would agree before my dad would... I would do it myself but my mom would murder me... lol. but i will just keep bugging my mom about it. I only see my dad once a week so maybe cuz he feels bad he'll let me....

thanks for the advice everyone!

if you are going to get your belly button pierced make sure it's done proffesionally.
my friend did it herself and it got really badly infected.
it's true that lots of belly button piercings get infected so you have to be carful.

I got mine done when I was 15 but my first piercing [excluding ears] was when I was 14 and that ws my tongue.
Don't pierce it yourself. It's a stupid thing to do. A few weeks after I had mine pierced I was in school and I had my lip pierced at the same time and I swallowed my lip bar, so I had to put my bellybar through it to keep it open [I washed it first obviously and used disinfectant]. my bellybutton piercing started to close up, and when I went home at lunch it had closed in the middle, so I had to repierce it myself. It fucking hurt and was close to infection, it was going very red, was very painful for a week or two and it bled a lot. Get it done professionally, it's not expensive and it'll look good :) If you have to wait a while then so be it, and I doubt your mum's going to check your bellybutton daily anyway. It's not a very obvious piercing really.
I have a lot of piercings so any other questions let me know :)

Depends where you get it done.

Um, you're way too young.
I went through a stage of wanting it done, but I out-grew it.
I also went through a stage of wanting a tattoo, too, but I've out-grown that.

It depends on how long "a while" is.
Give yourself time to see if you REALLY want it, or if it's just a phase.

+ Also, you shouldn't do things behind your parents' back. They say no for reasons.

How is she way too young? My cousin got hers pierced when she was about that age, hasn't regretted it.

The age limit is there for a reason.
You make wiser descisions the older you are.
Most people will live to regret having tattoos or piercings at such a young age.
But as for everything, there are exceptions to the rule.
Your sister may be one of them.

You can get minor piercings at pretty much any age with your parents permission, which is why little kids have their ears done. Facial piercings have to be 16+ I think, and intimate piercings are 18+.

Yeah, parents permission, which most parents don't give.

I've seen loads of kids with their belly buttons pierced, so clearly they do.

Many don't ask their parents, they take an older sibling/an older friend/an older relative.

I just think people should wait a while, we all go through phases.

had my belly done for my 14th this year and it didn't hurt..
just only abit as it has to heal, be careful catching it although it's not a massive problem.

i was rather naughty with mine and cleaned it (with hot salt water) for just over a week and then stopped. it's been just under a month since i got it done now, and it doesnt hurt at all :) good luck if anyone gets it done.

I've got mine pierced. Never had an infection, but i cleaned it like everyday with salt water. I've had it done for almost a year now, and it's healed quite well. But if you do it yourself i'd say it's more likely to get infected. Bummer that your mum won't let you though.

i loovvee my piercing <3
got it done on my 18th, parents didn't know,
but my mom eventually found out haha.
it did hurt a bit, the needle initially going in but for like 1 minute.
cleaned it twice a day with salt water, and I think I lost
the top of my piercing jewellry like the little ball top that screws in your belly button ring
about a million times, thats the only part I hate and then having to find it somewhere on my carpet :P
