Has anyone other than me seen this?

It was Clint Eastwood's first American western (The "Man With No Name trilogy was Spanish)

It's basically about a man who managed to stay out of the hostilities of the Civil War. When the war ends he starts to believe that life will become easier in Missouri, but even though the war is over the conflict has just begun.

Disputes arise in the border states. A group of Union renegades has formed a group known as the Red Legs who are determined to kill every last Southern man, woman , and child and then conquer the Indian Nation. (Native American)

Josey's wife and son are murdered by these men and he joins a Confederate rebellion. After a brief stalemate on the Mason Dixon line the Confederate leader hands his men over to the Union. Josey manages to escape and decides to head for Indian country. Along the way he battles numerous bounty hunters and Union cavalries.

He runs into a former Cherokee chief and a Native American slave. They then decide to join up with a renegade Confederate general in Mexico.

Along the way they save a family planning to settle in Texas from the Commancheros. He falls in love with the daughter and agrees to protect them from the Commanches.

Although the story is entirely fictional, it is a good portryal of post Civil War conflicts. Groups like the Red Legs actually did exist in real life.
