Starring: Tobey Maguire, Kirsten Dunst, James Franco, Thomas Haden Church, Topher Grace, Bryce Dallas Howard, Rosemary Harris, J.K. Simmons, James Cromwell.
Director: Sam Raimi
Certificate: UK-12A, US-PG13, IRE-12A, CAN-PG, AUS-M
Running Time: 139 Minutes
Official Site: http://spiderman3.sonypictures.com/
Trailer: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wbEQ-WCdqhg
The Plot: Finally, Peter Parker and Mary Jane are together, but when a mysterious alien symbiote crashes to Earth and attaches itself to Peter's Spider-Man suit, things begin to go drastically wrong. The symbiote begins to take over Peters life, and before he knows it, he begins to systematically lose everything that he holds dear. As well as fighting the evil rising within himself, he must also do battle with the 'Sandman' and his former best friend, Harry Osborn, who wants vengeance for what he believes Spider-Man did to his father. Ultimately leading to a cataclysmic showdown between all three, and a menacing creature called 'Venom'...
What's Good?: The film is entertaining; especially during the epic fight scenes. The special effects are brilliant too, the effects used on 'Sandman' are amazing to watch, particularly when he is on the rampage in the city centre. After 3 films Tobey Maguire seems to fit perfectly into the role of courageous "geek", Peter Parker/Spider-Man, and pulls off the role with ease. There are also quite a few funny parts in the film as well, with one particularly funny scene involving Parker strutting his stuff down the street. And a special mention must go to Bruce Campbell (AKA: Ash from 'The Evil Dead' Trilogy) as a French waiter in a restaurant, who's brief cameo in the film is comedy highlight. The final battle is also highly thrilling, with an unexpectedly poignant ending.
What's Bad?: The main problem with this film is that the middle section is completely different in pacing to the opening and ending, while never actually boring, it does seem to drag and become very slow, and i feel that the film goes on for far too long. In my opinion at least half an hour could have been shaved off the running time without losing any plot, this would have made it much more streamlined and consistently entertaining. Also, whilst Venom is a suitably menacing nemesis for Spidey, he is criminally underused and instead of going out with the bang he deserved, he just seemed to go out with a whimper. It is also never really explained where this alien Symbiote came from, or how it seemed to magically find Peter Parker, either. I'm sure this is fully explained in the comics, but to movie go-ers it's all a bit of a mystery.
Conclusion: A fun action film, that is definitely better than the first Spider-Man film, but due to slower pacing, isn't as good as the superior second film.
8.5/10

Spider-Man 3 has smashed world records!
Columbia Pictures' Spider-Man 3 exploded into conventional theaters and IMAX, smashing the opening weekend record previously held by Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest ($135.6 million). Spidey earned an incredible $148 million in a record 4,252 theaters domestically, which also resulted in the biggest average per theater ever - $34,807. Spider-Man 2 opened to $88.1 million in 2004 and Spider-Man to $114.8 million in 2002.
On Friday, the third film broke the records for biggest opening day and single day, making $59 million compared to "Dead Man's Chest's" $55.8 million opening day.
The Sam Raimi-directed film added $227 million from May 1st through today internationally as well, bringing the worldwide total to $375 million! The studio is said to have spend $258 million on the production of the movie and another $100 million on the marketing.
The movie has also claimed the largest gap domestically between 1st place and 2nd place ever. DreamWorks' Disturbia earned $5.7 million in second place for its fourth weekend, so the difference between the two is $143.3 million, or 96.14%.
Impressive! I'm not surprised considering that at Cineworld in Sheffield on Friday night all showings were fully booked after 7pm, i turned up two hours in advance and all the tickets were gone. I had to go to VUE...*shudder*. 'Pirates of the Caribbean 3', 'The Simpsons Movie' and 'Die Hard 4.0' are going to have their work cut out for them to beat that record, but i have a feeling that 'The Simpsons Movie' could possibly manage it.

Doesn't look like anything special to me.
ya it wasn't really that great. they could've used alot less musical parts.. or atleast shorten it. not to mention peter parker is fag. he was a loser before but on this movie they make him wannabe pimp fagish emo loser.
he also should've stayed with the black costume..

Lol, yeah, good points actually, especially the musical bits, they really should have trimmed those bits out when i think about it. I thought it was unintentionally funny how the "evil-ness inside him" made him turn emo (especially the fringe), haha.

I doubt the Simpsons could beat it. It lost it's hype aggggges ago. Most people will just make the time to go see it, not rush at at the first chance they get.
I think Die Hard 4. is in with a chance though, looks amazing, it'll easily out-do Spiderman with all it's previous years of praise clocked up.

You would be amazed. Its still on air in 3 different channels in several different markets here in America, its sales are still flying off the racks for DVD sales and they are still airing new episodes, they even have it on Telemundo in Texas now.
However, on a side note, isnt that the same thing we thought about Spiderman till the movie came out? He was long dead and then all of a sudden resurected. I personally think it will beat Spiderman, especially in Rual markets.

Ok, I've skipped everyone's posts.
Chris is it worth seeing?
And yes I've seen the first two.
And how come you didn't ask me when you went to see it...not impressed.

Yeah, it's worth seeing. And we didn't ask you because you were still in College when we went to see it, me, Neil and Cheryl went to buy tickets at about 5 o clock and you'd probably not have got home yet. Didn't do us any good going early though, it was fully booked everywhere but VUE, and after Friday i've vowed never to go to VUE again (scratch on screen, about 10inches being projected onto the roof, no leg room and crappy sound).

The only problem with Die Hard 4.0 is that it's rumoured to only be a PG-13 in America (in other words a 12A here), and if you look on IMDb's forum for DH4 it seems that plenty of pissed off Die Hard fans will refuse to see a watered down version of their favourite film franchise, so this could potentially hurt it's sales. I still think it looks good, but if it is watered down and he doesn't say "yippee ki yay motherfucker" i'll be pissed, after all, a Die Hard movie is supposed to be full of swearing and violence, not toned down for the kiddies. I find it hard to believe that many 12 year olds will even care about Die Hard really. Like the recent Rocky Balboa, this should be a film for the people who grew up with it. At least in my opinion anyway.
I'm still totally looking forward to it though, i'm hoping it will be the best film of the summer, and i've actually already got a Die Hard 4.0 poster on my wall that i got free in a magazine :D lol.

1.) What the fuck does what I said have to do with the "comic book" it was a stab at the movie not the fuckin comic book.
2.) I suggest if you are going to point out storylines you look at the fact that they skipped over some of the characters inbetween and only hit up the worlds best known.
3.) You do know I live in America right? If you didn't know then a.) You are stupid and b.) You should be more attentive. so 2.a) That means I would know about it since it IS an American Tradition and Comic ;)
4.) You did know it is a long standing cartoon in America too? ;) Heh, atleast the cartoon follows the story line correctly ;)
5.) You did know that there was several books written by Marvel comics too, not just comic books I mean REAL BOOKS like Im a big boy books, about Spiderman ;), stop trying to argue everything I say like your fuckin smart :| because now you are picking fights just to pick them. Like a school girl who has PMS.

The actor is wearing eyeliner, Peter Parker is not. The eyeliners not part of the story, just make-up to accentuate the eyes.

ahh, Bedwell, more and more you remind me of a teenage girl ^^. Chiefly my sister xD
Please find me the part of the comics where Spiderman becomes an emo, as opoosed to a badass.

Does it really matter?
I think it's a little sad you're having a big argument about whether a fictional character should wear eyeliner or not.

Yes he's wearing eyeliner, and has an 'emo like' fringe...so what?

He might not have put it on, on purpose but he is still wearing it.
I like having arguments about eyeliner, although it's generally more to do with liquid or pencil, than whether someone's wearing it or not :/
Can you find a better picture?
