Hey!
Later on (2pm) I am going with my nan to apply for a job at my local pub. The money isn't too great, but its money none-the-less and its cash-in-hand which will not affect my EMA :D
Does anyone have any decent advice as in, what to wear, how to look, what to say etc?

Merci beaucoup!

OK I went but my nan did all the talking thank God!
The manager wasn't there so he will be phoning me when he gets back next Tuesday but they are on the lookout for staff!!!
I am still writing out a letter to a few companies asking if they need any workers to work at their business but does anyone know what I can put on this letter?

Muchos gracias.

If it's a proper job, not cash in hand them just write them a formal letter stating you are unemployed but enthusiastic about working for such a fantastic company held in such high regard by the local community etc etc..........

Cool cheers. I'm writing off to at least 10 jobs.
The pub one that is calling me back is cash-in-hand as then it won't affect my EMA. Cash-in-hand jobs are actually probably better but they tend to lower their wages significantly as they don't have to put it through their books...

Dont tell people it is cash in hand. One of my friends got caught for benefit fraud. Well it was housing benefit actually but she went to prison for 4 months. Got her job back when she came out though.

Not totally sure how much I will get yet.
Have sent everything off and had a few replies, just awaiting the one to tell me how much i'll get. I should think it'll be £20, hopefully £30 :D

Can't wait for the bonuses!

Bob!
July 26th '05, 04:03 PM
Hell even wi 20 quid it mounts up to a lot more then it does wi a tenner.

After 5 week id get 50 quid, ud have 100. lol. :(

It all works out fairly even though as your parents earn more than mine do, therefore you get a smaller allowance than I do.

I think we are still able to get part time jobs with EMA so its ok! No need to keep it hush!

jesus'_bright_red_pants
July 26th '05, 06:56 PM
No you can't! You cannot be earning money whilst the EMA is in place, otherwise you are really earning more than you proclaim.

Shane
July 26th '05, 06:58 PM
As long as you are not earning over a certain amount its fine! I read through everything. You can work upto 18 hours a week too!

jesus'_bright_red_pants
July 26th '05, 07:01 PM
So basically, you can earn a piddle amount and still get the £10/£20/£30.
Thats crap! I will be working 9-5 every weekday (in the hols) which will amount to £50 a day, which would be £250. After this I would be working mornings/afternoons depending on my college lessons plus Sundays. I am going to end up with no EMA.

Any summer jobs we get wont effect it, not that i know of!!

You wont be able to earn alot in college anyway!

You wont be able to earn alot in college anyway! What do you mean? Like in part-time jobs?

Shane
July 26th '05, 07:05 PM
Yeah, you wont have enough time to earn anything near an amount to change anything!!

Anyway, none of my parents work so i will be getting the £30 hopefully!! :)

Bob!
July 26th '05, 07:05 PM
Its 30k a year i think, and thats in whole, without tax an shite deducted.

Were just below that limit, so if i get a job then no ema for me.

And it dunt work out fairly kelly, its the parents thats earnin more, that dunt mean i see the money lol.

Shane
July 26th '05, 07:11 PM
Well my parents get no where near that! LOL

And it dunt work out fairly kelly, its the parents thats earnin more, that dunt mean i see the money lol.Does in a way though as your parents earn more than my mum, can afford more for your studies than my mum can for mine. The EMA is an educational maintenance allowance, not social.

Bob!
July 26th '05, 08:28 PM
Yeah but col is free for 16 - 18.

And if so then why does it get paid into ur bank account :P

Its mainly for students who havent got jobs and do not have the time to work as well as do college work. as we all need moneh.

What ya parents earn makes no difference if they dont give it to u lol, not sayin they should like but still.

July 26th '05, 08:34 PM
Yeah but col is free for 16 - 18.I'm not saying it isn't but the textbooks and stuff aren't.
I thought the Educational Maintenance Allowance was an allowance to maintain your educational needs such as purchasing textbooks, stationary etc.

Bob!
July 26th '05, 08:55 PM
Well yeah actually that as well, its in place of a student loan.

I didnt think o that kinda stuff, i'm an IT student ya see, all the stuff i need is on the coms :P

Shane
July 26th '05, 08:57 PM
Well half of mine will be going on a weekly buspass...

Bob!
July 26th '05, 09:32 PM
The hell, jus get yerself a student pass for the college term, if ya gunna college that is.

Shane
July 26th '05, 09:33 PM
Can only get them if we live over 3 0r 4 miles away from college! Its like 10 mins away for me on the bike!

Bob!
July 26th '05, 09:36 PM
aw thats gay as fook lol.

Im only bout a mile away, o well :P

I'm getting a student 16-18 pass so I can get on the bus for 40p which is decent.
And today I got a letter through telling me how much money I am entitled to with the EMA thing...:D Proper chuffed me!

Shane
July 27th '05, 07:03 PM
Yeah i will get the 40p thing but it will cost me over the price of a weekly pass so i might as well get one of those! :P

jesus'_bright_red_pants
July 27th '05, 07:07 PM
How much are the weekly pass things? I have worked out that it'll cost me 80p everyday to get to and from college which will amount to £4 per week which is great and barely touches on my EMA!

Shane
July 27th '05, 07:13 PM
I will be getting on around 3-6 buses a day! I dont know how much they are, about £13 i think!

jesus'_bright_red_pants
July 27th '05, 07:15 PM
Oh right! That explains why it is cheaper to get one of those passes then! I think i'll stick with the 16-18 pass paying 40p a time!
Its great that we're entitled to discounted rail travel too!

Shane
July 27th '05, 07:18 PM
Cool, I did not know about the rail discounts! All those trips to London and Manchester are going to get alot cheaper! :P

jesus'_bright_red_pants
July 27th '05, 07:19 PM
