OK, for next year, i'm gonna plan to work in San Francisco or New York for a year starting in Feb. for work experience given to me by my university. I want to work in hotels or events there, so wondering what it's like working in America in general. What experience i need working there and any travel advice before I go.

I got information on J1 Visas but that's about it.

thank you

Rule 1, stay the hell out of New York unless you like chavs and posh people, because that's all it is, if they aren't a chav, they are posh. Though I have met a few that were cool, most of them, piss me off. Maybe its just because they never shut the fuck up.

Rule 2, if you go to San Francisco, be prepared to either run into Mac retards who think they are Posh, or Pseudo-Geeks who aren't jack shit.

Rule 3, be used to arrogant cocks in both San Francisco and New York, it seems those two cities have the biggest arrogance level :-\.

Rule 4, the cost of living in both cities is 3x as much as that of ANY city in the UK, besides maybe a High Class area in London. So be prepared to either pay a lot of rent, or live in a slum.

Rule 5, don't take no for an answer, if they tell you no to a job, tell them they need you and prove it, if you fill out an app. you call them back, they are big cities, they don't need you because a day in the paper could bring 2000 applicants. You better be prepared to prove your self in cities like that.

Rule 6, if you move to San Francisco area, more of the bay area, closer to the tip of Silicon valley, be prepared to meet and like uber geeks like me, they aren't friendly, they are assholish, blunt and don't care about you, they aren't posh, or chavvy and they aren't arrogant, they just don't give a shit. Don't mess with geeks, they can form better then anything in the world and we hold grudges forever, because we have memories better then your hard drive.
