me and my teacher where have an argument over i this think it should be legal to have sex if you can be send to prison to await a trial at the age of 15year why cant you have sex at the same age i believe that if you can be held responsible and sent to prison for a short amount of time then you can also be aloud to have sex!!!!
if you have any comment im looking forward to reading them thanks for taking the time to read this:D

I think it should be illegal till the girl starts her periods. It's only natural after all.

14 wouldn't be too bad but considering teens these days and how stupid they can be, I don't think the stupid ones should be encouraged more than they are by their peers already. Keeping it at 16 doesn't bother me.
I mean, who really cares about the legal age anyway? If you're gonna do it then you're gonna do it. You don't take the legal age into consideration if you're both the same side of it.
PS: I wanted this to be a thread about the term 'sexual intercourse' because I have a cool story about that. :(

Yeah! The legal age to have a child should be 17, I think. That way you are mature enough to look after a baby, responsibly.
I don't see why people make a big fuss out of the legal age of consent, it hasn't stopped anyone I know, yet they haven't got pregnant or emotionally wrecked because of it.
Silly laws..

Does it really matter?
That vote is a bit stupid too.
So the options are, 14-15, 15-16 (where does the 15 from 14-15 and the 15 from 15-16 cross over) or then until you're married, what so there's no other possibility of anything else? Like maybe 17, or 18. Putting other doesn't exactly cover that much does it, pfft.

I read that as 'I think it should be legal till the girl starts her period' I was like, how is that natural at all =/
I don't see what the problem is. 16 is fine by me, changing it would just cause problems. Its not like its all that important anyway.

It being legal when a girl starts her period doesn't work either, though, since most girls start at like 11 and sometimes younger.

but when you start your body is tell you your ready have a baby so you clearly ready i thinks
*Jess*
October 5th '07, 06:47 PM
No,you're not clearly ready.
Your body is preparing for it because it has to at some point, it doesn't mean you are mentally or probably physically (in some respects) capable to have sex.
How anyway would they tell when a girl had started her period? Check her tampons? :\.
And how old would the guy have to be?
And what if she said she was old enough, then got the guy arrested for having sex illegally because she was actually lying.
Its a silly idea really.
It should stay as it is, if not higher. certainly not younger.

What REAL difference does a year make if you're really into each other.
At least it gives you another year to decide.
If you're that bothered about your fella being accused of rape; don't have sex.
I really don't see what the big fascination with sex is tbh.

i know but it isnt fair that also boy can can have sex at the age of 14years and girl have to wait till there 16years and also i not worried about my bf getting done well i am but still it just i do truly think that if you 15years you should be able to have sex with the one you love!!!!

You aren't mature enough generally at 15, no matter how mature you think you are.
I don't even think I'm mature or ready for it.
Its not about fucking fairness, its about whats best.
At 15, its not legal, simple as that. 15 is too young.
Its not legal for a guy at 14 :S, where did you get that from? Its the same age for both girls and boys.

Nah I think a lot of people are ready at 15. It's just that the stupid ones who aren't but do it anyway are more vocal about it so it seems like no-one in our age group is mature enough.

October 14th '07, 03:40 PM
On my more mature view now, I think one should wait until they are married or at least until they've really known their partner for a while, can trust them and are ready. Sex or anything shouldn't be forced upon anybody!
nyx
October 16th '07, 11:15 AM
Like Grolsch?
Haha.
Anyway, at the end of the day, there has to be a restriction there. And whatever it is, people will complain. I think 16 is probably fairly sensible, I think most people are ready at 16, and if they are before they're not gonna pay attention to the law anyway. It would be practically impossible to change it so why bother. If it ain't broke why fix it?

i think that its not about age its about how your body is in its growth and maturity and aswell as your mind. i believe that if a person truly believes they are in love and are TRULY in love then i believe its okay. but its different for all people

i agree with the one who said when the girl starts her period. or i think it should be when both get pubic hair, then they are old enough
Leon
November 22nd '07, 01:45 PM
You realise those things can happen as young as age 9/10.
Still agree with that opinion?
hottchick0988

well maybe not at 9 or 10, but i thought that stuff happened around 12 or 13??

It happens at various ages from 9 through to 16 roughly, for everyone it's different.
hottchick0988

well then leon, lets say 12 and up, as long as there is pubic hair, whether its shaved off or not doesnt matter, as long as they are old enough to grow it

in australia (more specifically my home state, victoria) we've got a whole lot of different rules relating to age.. for example :
Under 10: no one can have sex with you or touch you sexually or
perform a sexual act in front of you (even if you agree).
10 to 15: a person can’t have sex with you, touch you sexually or
perform a sexual act in front of you if they are more than two years
older than you, even if you agree. Exceptions to this may be if the
person believed you were 16 or older, or the person believed they
were married to you.
16: no one who is caring for you or supervising you, like a teacher,
youth worker or foster carer, can perform a sexual act with or in
front of you, even if you agree. Exceptions to this may be if the
person believed you were 17 or older, or believed they were married
to you.
16 or 17: no one who is caring for you or supervising you, like a
teacher, youth worker or foster carer, can have sex with you, even if
you agree. Exceptions to this may be if the person believed you were
18 or older, or believed they were married to you.
After you turn 18, obviously being an adult in the eyes of the law, everything (well, not everything obviously) is legal.
I think the rules are a good idea - the different allowances for age i think cater well for different levels of maturity, while also protecting younger people from foul play.
Regardless of the laws, underage sex is always going to happen, what needs to be improved is the reportability of offences, and a way that the courts can take into account different circumstances - a 15 year old girl could be gang raped by a group of guys 6 years older than her, and the guys would face the same charges as her having consentual sex with her 18 year old boyfriend.
It makes very little sense to me..
Oh well - thats just Australia though, i wasn't living in England long enough to really take notice of the majority of the laws!

I don't think anyone should be having sex until they are ready to care for a child
I am talking mentally, physically and financially. Too many teens through their burden on their parents. Or they end up screwing up their kids, because they weren't ready.
And as far as when their period starts. Girls start their periods as young as 7-8. I don't know about you, but that's pretty young to be having sex.

I think people should really only be able to have sex when their bodies are fully mature & understand the risks associated with doing the deed. I think males & females need to be completely educated and understand how to use contraceptives perfectly. However, I do believe that anyone under 16 is way too young. Sex can be a huge responsibility if people don't do it properly.

The kids get taught how to use contraceptives and everything before the age of 16, and the law states that people should only have sex over the age of 16.
The problem is the younger kids that do it without the proper protection.

Well In Canada That was what I was taught. In grade 9, when I was 14-15 we did research projects on every type of disease you can get and after seeing that I swore I would never do it when I was that age. Maybe if schools would reinforce actual contraceptives like condoms and what not it would make a huge differences. I know in Canada at clinics if you don't want to your parents to know you're using the pill you can get it without their consent when you're younger. A bunch of my friends did it... maybe governments & schools should make these contraceptives easier for teens to get. They should also educated them even more with videos & reading material. Teenagers today don't get the proper education they need about it.

Yes you're right on that case, however, as a good teacher you would go out of your way to make sure each student understands and knows that if they need anything there are places where they can get it. There is a difference between good and bad teachers. Good teachers go the extra mile while the bad ones don't and don't care. I'm not blaming the education system because a lot of teachers have the mentality of I'm providing them what I need to therefore I have done my job. Which is very true. Maybe they need to redo the entire program for contraceptives where parents & doctors are more incorporated into it. I just think a lot of kids who are 14 or 15 are too scared to talk to their parents. Maybe it's something the government should implement!

I think it depends on how mature you are as a person, and whether you can cope with the consequences of your actions - e.g. getting pregnant, STDs etc. However, I think that sex education and contraceptives should be easily accessed from a young age. As other people have said, just because the law in England states that the legal age of consent in 16, it doesn't mean that everyone is going to wait until that age. It's better to provide the services so people who are going to have sex at a younger age are less likely to catch STDs and get pregnant before they are able to cope with it.
I do think however, that people shouldn't be pressurised into sex before they are ready, or feel like they have to loose their virginity just because some of their friends might have done.
