Hey everyone, Just wondering what everyone thinks is the best song ever written. Mine has to be Stairway To Heaven by Led Zeppelin, the lyrics are powerful, the guitar is exceptional and the solo is breath-taking.
Let me know what you think :)

Gotta agree that is a very good song, but my personal favourite is November Rain by Guns n Roses, it has everything, abt 3-4 very good solo's, a dramatic song which rocks.
I do understand it isn't best according to others but I love it

What about Bohemian Rhaposdy by Queen, eh?

Haha.

Stairway to Heaven in an amazing song...I couldn't pick a "best song", really.

Reversed its a Satanic Message! -

Forward - If there's a bustle in your hedgerow, don't be alarmed now. It's just a spring clean for the May queen. Yes there are two paths you can go by, but in the long run, there's still time to change the road you're on"

Reversed - "Oh, here's to my sweet Satan. he one whose little path would make me sad, whose power is Satan. He'll give those with him 666; there was a little toolshed where he made us suffer, sad Satan."

Wow this is actually intresting! Theres loads of them but this site probably has the best ones - http://jeffmilner.com/backmasking.htm

Well, about the Led Zeppelin thing with the reversed song, it's scary I know, But still, Led Zeppelin is my number 1 favorite band(with Pink Floyd):P

Anyway, I don't think I can pick a favorite song, really. Every song is unique in its own way. (I'm talking about the ones I like). Every day my favorite song changes, For today, it's Two suns in the sunset - Pink Floyd. :D
Oh and Bohemian Rhapsody, what can I say a masterpiece...

No. Stairway to Heaven is the most overrated song of all time.

In my opinion, Midnight in a Perfect World by Dj Shadow.

Appreciate

Aww33:) any Led Zeppelin fan is someone I love.:P

Stairway to heaven is not overrated, but too popular. Like Hotel california and all these songs that everybody knows, and everybody listens to. They get boring after a while.

Ooh... that's a really hard thing for me to pick. I have respect for a lot of the older stuff, Lynard Skynard, Tom Petty, Creedence Clearwater etc... but there are always new styles and great songs coming out... so I can't choose :P

To me, The Alchemist by Acoustic Alchemy is excellent, but that's because as a child I was subjected to it day in... day out... I don't think my dad had any other tapes. I love the song nonetheless, whether or not it is the best one ever ever ever like, written, like, ever.

Aside from that, I tend to go through phases, so I can't choose.

Led Zeppelin are awesome, but Stairway to Heaven is oh so bland compared to the vast majority of their other stuff. Isn't it true the chord progression was nicked (with or without permission) from somewhere?

Hmmm....It is hard to pick a favorite one. Yet, I'm going to have to go with "American Pie" by Don McLean. Its such a powerful song about the passing of an era in American histoy and it has catchy lyrics to boot... A very close second would be "All Along the Watchtowers" oringinally by Bob Dylan, but most famously covered by Jimi.

Burias

Well, I've never been a decisive person, so here are my Top 5 picks in categorized form:

Most Sentimental Song: "Fire and Rain" -James Taylor (It was my Dad's favorite song.)

Most Culturally Relevant: "Feed the Fire" -Steppenwolf
Alternate for above: "Another Day in Paradise" -Phil Collins

Best Instrumental: "He's a Pirate Remix" -DJ Tiesto

Most Powerful: "Caledonia" -Celtic Thunder

Best to sing along with: "Lookin' out my Back Door" -Creedence Clearwater Revival
