I am a new member to this forum. I recently graduated from Wellesley College and have launched a new magazine for teens. Recently I read this really great article in the New York Times titled, "Are American's Hostile to Knowledge". And it got me thinking, why HAS our society become so anti-intellectual?I gathered high school students together and we assembled a new TeenZine. We want to start an Intellect movement. Read our mission statement below:
Intellect is an intellectually stimulating AND entertaining magazine for middle and high school students. Let's Change the Culture out there! We live in a society in which being "intellectual" is frowned upon. Do the titles, "geek", "sell-out", "brainiac" sound familiar. There is absolutely nothing wrong with wanting to study, speak properly, read a newspaper, or watch the news to educate yourself. Doesn't it make sense to know what is going on in the world and to seek the information to navigate through it. We think so, and that is what our magazine is about; presenting information on science, politics, culture and current events to teens.
