View Full Version : High Expectations?

So I'm just finishing up year 10, ready for my GCSEs next year. I've been predicted ten As and A*s and I was wondering if this is quite high. Everyone in my school is pressured into getting A*s, so much that an A is almost looked down on.
Granted, my school is a grammar school, but is all this pressure to get these super high grades justified? I've been brainwashed into thinking that a B is as bad as failing!!

Omgosh thats high pressure
Most schools are well happy if their students get B's.
A B is a really good grade.
As long as you do your best and try your hardest there is nothing else they can ask from you x

I hate it when the school pressures you to acheive higher grades, it just means more money for them ¬.¬
Saying that, i expectations of myself are high, never below a C or its a re-sit, lol

Well i'm predicted 2 A's and 3 B's. Whether i achieve that or not, i leave for fate to decide.
I'm not going back to school in January to re-sit them, i've spent 5 years in that school, thats enough, lol.

At my school, getting a C is practically unheard of...I just wish that everyone was more accepting of lower grades like that...they are still passes after all!
Although saying that, I still wouldn't be happy with a C, i'd resit too!
and thanks for the good luck, river, i'm gonna need it :)

Wow... I would be happy with a C in some subjects, but I want a B in English. I dont think a C is a bad grade at A Level. But everyone has recieved different education and have been brought up differently etc, and so we all have different perceptions of it I guess.
Good luck to everyone. Im so scared for results day..

A 'C' is the national average, so its not a poor result. I'm quite competitive so i want higher than a 'C', lol.
And like you said, everybody's education is different, along with their learning styles and techniques. Plus the type of school they attend. Such as Private schools have a higher percentile of above average grades compared to state funded schools.
But anywho, good luck to all GSCE / A-Level students next month!

There is no such thing as high expectations. What grades you expect of yourself are what you expect to reap from the grades.
As for me, I don't care much for grades. However, I try to get A's, but I usually end up with B's and A's. I don't consider it high expectations, since I'm getting these grades to land one of the really hard-to-get state scholarships.

e.e
You'd hate my grades then. For GCSE I got one D, and the rest were E's and F's.

I did try. But I moved here when I was 14 from America, so I was kind of tossed in with no previous knowledge of what had been taught. xD

Ouch, unlucky... Given the circumstances, and the fact that you tried your best... well done. :)

I know how you feel, i was constantly moving when i was little so my grades went abit squiffy, until i told my parents that enough was enough. I wont be moving again til after Uni :)

Haha. We've moved twice. I used to live in a town just outside Philadelphia until age 14, then we moved to Paignton in Devon, and then my parents divorced. Dad moved to Exeter, and earlier this year Mom moved us to Chudleigh. xD

Who cares what your school thinks? Or your school friends? If they look down on you because of your grades then that's their problem. A 'B' grade is nowhere near bad. It's great! All you can do is try your best and as long as you know you have, don't worry about it.

hi, i got several A predictions and one A* prediction and so that I don't panic i have set my own targets, which are at least B's in most and i think I've said a C for one. Although they still seem high they are lower than my predictions so when you come to getting your results if you look at them compared to what u set yourself you will be a lot happier as you will have done a lot better than you thought.
Well thats how i look at it :)
