Occasionally (about 4 or 5 times a year), I seem to fall asleep at night (of course), but about 5 mins after I go to sleep, I suddenly "wake up" without remembering my dream (I may not even have been dreaming) and get that feeling in your body as if someone's just surprised you. I wake up in these occurences with no noise waking me up.
So:
happens a few times a year
asleep for about 5 mins
wake up with that "surprise" feeling
don't remember the dream - considering I was dreaming.
Does anyone else get this or am I turning into a nut?
Oh, and I was inspired to post this thread as it happened to me again last night . . .(although the telly was left on in that occurence - but the telly was fairly quiet as the rest of the house was asleep - it was about 12:45am and I fell asleep by accident while sat here, in my spinning chair. Because the telly was fiarly quiet, this makes me think what happened to me was the same as before.)

It doesn't actually hurt me I know but it is just really annoying when it happens and is also quite frightening!
I was just wondering if anyone else on here has the same problem.

You mean like, you're dozing off, and you dream you're walking along or something, then you stumble over and feel like you're about to smack onto the ground? Bolt awake, scared shitless?
Totally natural and nothing to worry about, occasionally it happens because your body and mind fall asleep separately, when you sleep, your body paralyzes itself, so you don't act out your dreams or harm yourself, similarly, the mind drifts into a cycle of subconscious maintainance checks on the rest of you.
Most of the time, your brain is snoozing before your body, giving you a regular nights sleep, your brain usually takes about 7 mins to drift off.
Your body however falls asleep after remaining completely motionless for a short about of time (you can make it do this while consiously awake if you like, weird feeling).
So if you're lying there, totally still, and your body drops off before your brain does, you'll get a sudden jolt into 'sleep paralysis' which startles you if you're not expecting it.
Nothing to worry about, hapens to everyone occasionally ^_^
