Andrés Calamaro - Alta Suciedad (1997)

http://pixhost.ws/avaxhome/e8/a6/0015a6e8_medium.jpeg

¡ALELUYA!

“ Smooth sultry tenor sax melodies over well crafted soulful grooves.Walle Larsson's sound is about emotion and soul from dripping from his sax on energetic funk and latin flavored selections through to easy going slow and sexy ballads.

As a Winnipeg Musician and sax player Walle Larsson had the opportunity to play and create music for many years. Concerts form New York to Tokyo and back and forth across Canada have been a highlight. Composing music for film and TV has been fun but live performance is where it’s at for me. Currently his position as entertainment co-ordinator at Assiniboine Park has afforded many opportunities. His band has performed with the likes of Brian Hughes, Liberty Silver, Les Sabler, Demo Cates and others. Earlier in his career he had the chance to perform with Mel Torme, Tony Bennet, David Clayton Thomas and Toronto R&B group The Lincolns.

Walle comments his new album: “The music business is a never ending cycle of trends that come and go. Fortunately for those of us involved in smooth contemporary jazz there is a common basis of rhythm and melody that stand the test of time.

Being involved in the same style of music since my teenage years has afforded me the opportunity of specializing in my chosen genre. Having composed music and produced half a dozen cds of the music I love has indeed been a pleasure. My next CD After The Night will be released at the Winnipeg Art Gallery August 12/10….see you there!” ”

“ Archie “Ajay” Jackson‘s interest in music was sparked by watching his family at their monthly jam sessions. Seeing that they did not have a bass player, he decided to learn how to play this instrument. At the age of 15, he taught himself how to play the bass. He performed his first professional gig two years later at a local pub with the Blues group, “Miki “L’ and Star Time.” They opened up for several Blues greats, including Bobby Rush and Lefty Diz.

His first recording experience was with Blues artist Milwaukee Slim on Blue Moon Records. He played several tracks on the album titled Lemmon Avenue as Junior Mc Caleb (Jamming Jay). Later, he started venturing off into different styles of music – Funk, Jazz, Neo-Soul and Rock. He joined several local groups in the Twin Cites (Banther, Curb Feelers, Shag, Fresh Water and Red Veda) and performed locally as well as New York, Chicago, Boston and Austin, Texas. He also recorded an alternative rock CD with John Sudusky which was played on college campuses and Alternative rock stations.

He has recently finished his first solo CD entitled Pressing On. Pressing On brings out some uplifting jazz grooves bound together by this upcoming Jazz Artist. The CD is very infectious from the first track, by the time you get to the song “Minister” you might find yourself hoping this is track 3 and you have 7 more to go. Ajay’s love for the Bass is on full display.

You’ll find yourself moving some body parts during the title song, that’s guaranteed. Jazz lovers and music enthusiasts you now have another CD to add to your collection and this one’s hot! ”

Genre: Blues/Bluegrass | Label: Crosscut (Germany) | Catalog Number: 11060 | Release Date: May 12, 1998 | RAR 5% Rec. | RS.com + HF.com

“ Following "Low Budget" and "Walk", performed with various different formations, it was only logical to make a record with Hank's live band, Loose Gravel. The line-up of this group consists of Michel Poffet on double bass and Christoph Beck on drums, percussion and backing vocals. Christian Brantschen once again guests on keyboards. Schifer Schafer gives guest performances in four songs and does what he did for two years on stage with Hank Shizzoe and Loose Gravel: with his unique guitar-playing he gives the arrangements fullness and airiness both at once. Thomas Erb wrote 12 of the 13 songs. "Between the Lines" was written by John Fogerty, the legendary singer, multi-instrumentalist, and composer of "Creedence Clearwater Revival". John Fogerty has not previously released "Between the Lines", and kindly made it available for "Plenty of Time."Info on the album in PDF-format, movies and audio samples in the service box to your right.
Straight outta Bern (Switzerland), baby, comes a hot roots rock album from the nifty Hank Shizzoe and his tandem of backers Loose Gravel. (...) This group has gained some notoriety and very positive reviews for previous output yet remain a hidden secret - Blues Scene Quarterly (USA)
Shizzoe sounds like the real thing, with a certain downhome low-budget class. - Free Times (USA) Succinct riffs and licks overlaying a laidback sound, mostly simmering away under the surface, that harmonizes even better with Shizzoe's lyrics of wanderlust and swamp fever than on his debut album "Low Budget". - Rolling Stone One the Old Continent's most talented musicians. One of the few personalities who can stand comparison with the giants of anglo-american music. First class. - Out Of Time (I)

Dave Brubeck - Bravo! Brubeck! (1967)

http://pixhost.ws/avaxhome/8e/ad/0015ad8e_medium.jpeg
One of the better Dave Brubeck LPs from the later period of the Quartet with altoist Paul Desmond, this set is unusual in that it only contains one Brubeck original. On such tunes as "Cielito Lindo," the beautiful "La Paloma," "Besame Mucho" and "Estrellita," the Quartet is augmented by guitarist Chamin Correa and percussionist Rabito Agueros. The results are melodic but swinging treatments of a variety of famous themes. - by Scott Yanow, AMG

Perhaps no other jazz artist has used the live album to his advantage more so than Brubeck. His series of college recordings in the early 1950s launched his career in full, and by the time his quartet performed these Mexican concerts in 1967, they were in the twilight of one of jazz's most successful runs. Delivering a repertoire of Mexican pop and folk standards (plus one Latin-tinged original), Brubeck mostly shows his softer melodic side, trading in his more intense, agitated ideas for hightened elements of beauty and swing. His dialogue with Mexican guitarist Chamin Correa on "Sobre Las Olas" is delightfully bright. Of course, Paul Desmond's alto work always tended toward the lighthearted; it's elegantly fragile (over Rabito Agueros's most delicate bongos) on "La Paloma Azul" and wonderfully frisky on "Estrellita." Brubeck and Desmond lay out for the fan favorite "Alla En El Rancho Grande," but Brubeck returns for a furious reading of "La Bamba," propelled by the percussion team of Rabito and Joe Morello. The timeless material, guest musicians, and above all, the fertility of the Brubeck Quartet make this Latin bit a success. - by Marc Greilsamer, Amazon.com
