Do you reckon a person is:
Too young or
The right age
to have a job if they are 14 years old?
Let us know which you think and why.

I think 15 is a more practical age, but you can't drive here until 16 so there's no real point to lower the age.

Reason I'm asking this question is because I've seen this question on the Internet, and I thought I'd ask the people of here their opinions.

Doesn't matter. it's a good question, but I think the answer varies by location.

I don't think 14-year-olds can handle it. I know I couldn't two years ago.

14 year olds can work here if their school gives them a work permit. 14 is freshman age.
I wouldn't say it's the "right" age but I don't see anything necessarily wrong with it. Good luck getting hired though.

No place likes hiring under 16 because of the fact they can only work certain hours with that permit.

Its fine, i started work at 14 and so far its been my longest term of employment, i lasted just under 5 years and started on £2.20 p/h. Depends on the person at the end of the day.

I got my first job at fifteen. I was paid "under the table" as a buss girl at a shady restaurant.
Would I have worked at fourteen? Hell yes. I hated having to rely on unreliable people for the things I need.

Street walking is illegal at any age.

Good for you, V.O!!!!
I personally think 14's too young to work. You don't want your childhood nabbed by work.

I don't think there's anything wrong with working at 14. Good on the kids who want to I guess.
Though, I definitely wasn't thinking of getting a job when I was that age.
Plus, I can only imagine that the money you'd be earning wouldn't be all that great.

it's just fine if you have the connections to get the job in the first place and aren't lazy as fuck, I started part-time 14 and have been doing just fine for myself, stacked up a lot of money, didn't spend it extravagantly
if you're just gonna be complaining or can't find a job due to a lack of connections or the age limit, you may as well start working 15 or 16 IMO

Our parents and grandparents left school at 14 didn't they, and got jobs? So maybe if they could do it, anyone who's 14 now could.

too young, just because it's illegal.
but really you can't say if 14 is too young from a general point, some 14 yr olds will be able to do that, but some might not, depending on a list of things such as maturity.
this probably has already been said but I don't really feel like reading every post in the thread.

I'd say 15. 14 is too young, I believe 15 is RIGHT in the middle of teenager years, so 15 would be a VERY good choice for a job, or to start one at least. Just my opinion. I know a lot of people may disagree, but I will not get a job till next year, and I am 14. That's my reasoning. :p

But if you are or were 14, there is a limit to jobs you can do isn't there?
At least when you reach 18 you can apply for those "age restricted" jobs, providing you can provide you're over 18. After all, you can put any date for all they know on the "date of birth" bit of an application form but some people who are 18 actually look underage.
I looked underage when I turned 18 and had to show i.d when and if I bought alcohol....but it happened/s to a lot of people
