pretty crazy.

Meanwhile, Mr. brown takes Cali.
I hope he stops all the budget cuts to education. That shit's screwing us over.

there were a lot of disenchanted Democrat voters this time around yo, people who voted for the first (and probably last) time the last presidential election couldn't be bothered to get up off their seats to go and vote

that's most likely why the GOP sweep is so big as it is

I was a little irked that Harry Reid beat Sharron Angle and for the life of me, I can't understand how anyone could, in good conscience, vote for Barney Frank.

And LoveBullets, believe it or not, the budget cuts won't really effect academia in California. Here's why:

won't really effect?

Hmkay.Anyways, all I want is for all the class cuts to stop, because I'm tired of all the shitty schedules.

It won't make a bit of difference, guys. The balls are inert.

Oh. Point is that you can raise the budget all you want for the department of education, but it's not going to matter. That money will be squandered on things that the schools simply do not need. In essence, it doesn't have to do with the amount of money being given to the schools, but rather how they're allocating the money. Yesh?

More money to schools wouldn't be a terrible thing, js. This year's budget was a joke. My school's budget, was a joke. Trying to allocate that tiny amount was a pain.

I believe I've acquainted you with my views on the education system already. But the fact of the matter is simply that more money to the schools simply won't change anything. I'm not sure if you watched the videos I posted above, but they're shining examples of why it doesn't matter how much money you empty into academia. The system, itself, is broke.

Chris Christy did a good job of demonstrating this point.

Hm that's right, so we won't agree on this subject :p
I just hate the fact that classes are so scarce. I only got into anatomy this semester out of pure luck -.-

Understandable. But how does that pertain to funds allocated to education? Realistically, if we stopped subsidizing poor performing universities, these problems wouldn't exist.

Less funds = less classes.

Less funds = less classes.
This makes sense if my school didn't recently get a huge budget, yet they raised food prices, got a cheaper pop company, canceled two classes, forced many teachers into retirement, and put a minimum on class size.

You should have seen the budget for my school. That was beyond sad. Teachers are being fired and classes were cut down by a fourth.

Sucks.

I have not seen the budget of your school, LoveBullets, but I'm willing to bet that it's a non-issue. Such a presumption is what is seen and automatically deduced, but in terms of economics and finances, things are rarely as simple as what is seen. Hence, the Broken Window Fallacy.

As for "Less funds = less classes", simply untrue. If there were no subsidies for universities, universities would be forced to allot their funds to meaningful finance brackets just to stay in competition. This means that there would, theoretically, be more classes. It's why Keynesian models of anything tend to fizzle out.

Unfortunately, due to very overzealous teachers unions and nanny state departments in our governments, academia has become a business which only opens its arms for more 'pork'.

If you watched the videos, you'll see quite clearly that more money =/= anything, except more money in the pockets of special interests. It's a system that rewards failure and any system like that, inevitably, punishes success.

Well, I HAVE seen the budget of my school since my best friend is vice president of the student government and I HAVE seen how everything is allocated since my friend is also treasurer, so, I'm pretty sure I know what I'm saying when I say that the budget is a joke.
I also know that a lot of money was cut from schools during the governator administration. you can't tell me that giving schools more money won't help in at least SOME aspects.
But anyways, like I said, we're never going to agree on this, so that's that. Go ahead and have the last word.

Why are you getting so uptight over a simple discussion? Forgive me if you weren't, but the inflections of your post as well as the abrupt "Go ahead and have the last word" thing, which had nothing to do with anything, indicates -- at least to me -- that you're very frustrated.

Anyway, I already did tell you that and showed you why things aren't always as they appear. I concede that I haven't seen the budget of your school and I can't speak absolutely on the subject, but I posted as many as three videos indicating why I believe such a stance is a Broken Window Fallacy. Did you watch any of them?

LoveBullets
November 5th '10, 06:34 PM
I'm not frustrated, I just don't give a damn about debating anything anymore :p And yes, I did.
