I can't wear lenses because I have sensitive eyes.
I don't like to wear glasses.
One OD said that I MUST wear glasses full time, the other said that I don't. The optician said that wearing or not wearing glasses have no effect on the eyesight, it can only cause headache and tire the eyes, but if I don't want to wear them and I feel fine it OK.
I am -2.5 and -1.25 cyl. in the right and -2.25 and -1.5 cyl in the left.
I sit about 8 inches from the screen and feel fine.
I read in a site about a method to rest the eyes that can improve eyesight and it kind of helps, I don't see better but my eyes are less strained... it called Palming...
I'm still not sure if I'm not causing harm to my eyes...
What do you think (or know)?
Thanks a lot.

I really don't understand what your optician meant when saying: wearing or not wearing glasses have no effect on the eyesight, it can only cause headache and tire the eyes. You wear glasses because your eyesight isn't perfect and thus they prove to be an aid. How can they say that it has no effect on the eyesight? It improves it, does it not? Wearing glasses may cause you headaches to start off with because you have been so used to not wearing something that makes your vision clearer, but that should clear up after you get used to them.
What can't you do without glasses?

The optician meant the eyesight without glasses, like the glasses don't improve the eyesight, they just make things clearer when you wear them, it also don't make the vision without them worse... what makes the eyesight worse is the lengthening eye-ball and glasses have nothing to do with that.
What can't you do without glasses? Basically, watching TV and copying from the board, even if I sit at the closest place in the class. Sometimes it's hard to read from the computer from more than 5 inches from the screen (usually I sit about 8 without glasses) and sometimes even reading small print or even newspapers and books for a long time without resting the eyes. The doctor said I must wear glasses full time but I don't really feel like I need them.

Surely the reason with the most common sense would to be just wear your glasses when you feel you need them.

This is what I'm doing, but I don't want to, I hate them. I want to get rid of them...
No one in my family had glasses at my age, and non is myopic... Some times I fill like I was cursed or so...
I hate my googles.
Sounds childish, I know.
Thanks anyway.

Well, sometimes there shall be things in life you don't really want to do but have to do. Your health is important and if having the ability to see more clearly means wearing glasses, then do so. You shall only be straining your eyes if you don't, which can lead to further deterioration in your eyesight.

I'm not sure about that. the eyesight deteriorate due to the lengthening eye-ball and not wearing glasses have nothing to do with that.

I want to improve my eyesight!
Thanks anyway!

your eyes can get worse if you don't wear your glasses. you're straining your eyes to see, and thereofre your eyes deteriorate. i'm pretty sure of that.
and my mum wears glasses for work, and my dad wears his occasionally, but i've worn them since i was 5. i don't really care. they're part of who i am. you should be grateful you can have glasses. some kids out there need them, but can't afford them.

I'm not straining them, I am trying to rest them as long as posible. I'm using them when I must to.

I don't feel that my glasses are part of me.
Thanks! It's a bit of encouragement.

Kathy, just wear them as you do need them.
Also, break down your diet and take out any unnecessary processed foods.

Simple things like snacking on fruit and nuts instead of crisps and chocolates which contain high levels of sugar and fat. A healthy diet can keep at bay many health problems. These include eye disorders as an unhealthy diet lacks some of the very important vitamins needed to keep your eye healthy.

I think maybe to take a risk and to try the soft lenses... at least for school, after the vocation.
