My bestie thinks all that talk about god and jesus is plain bull. She says that if there really was a god who was there to protect us and look after us, why is global warming happening? and why did he let Korea blast the missile off? and why is there so much trouble in this god damn world!? I'm sorta wonderin' the same thing now...What are your thoughts about it? hmmmm

Those who believe and do good works and believe in that which is revealed unto Muhammad - and it is the truth from your Lord - He rids them of their ill-deeds and improves their condition. That is because those who disbelieve follow falsehood and because those who believe follow the truth from their Lord. [Al-Qur'an 47:2]

October 13th '06, 09:28 PM
Whether or not an individual is convinced of the existance of God is totally up to them. It's fine if you choose not to believe.
There is the trouble in the world we see today, because we brought it upon ourselves. We are told to respect ourselves, each other and the environment but if we fail to do so then we have to expect the bad things to happen to us, too. Just because evil is amongst us, it doesn't mean God doesn't exist. It simply means we made the wrong decisions and now we have to deal with the consequences.

I don't believe in God, but I'm never going to say, "God is bullshit!" because that's not a wise thing to do. When you accept something as completely, 100% impossible, you've just made yourself that much more ignorant and close-minded. I don't believe in him, but I suppose there's a 0.000000001% chance of him existing, only because we don't know everything about the universe, and assuming we do is ridiculous.

Im going to say something that sticks up for religion, but that doesnt mean im religous. I just dont think the 'if god exist's why is there stuff like war around,' arguments a good one. Because stuff like war's are down to people, and im sure god doesnt control peoples actions and stuff, so you have a chance to live a righteous life or a bad life, and if you live a bad life you will go to hell. So for instance I think someone in another thread said something like, if theres a god why did 9/11 happen, well you could say that the people who were responsible for 9/11 are now suffering in hell or will suffer in hell....

no need to call each other names....Actually, you're wrong. I don't believe in God, but I have many Christian friends, and I would never want to convince them God doesn't exist. That's an important part of their life, and taking that away from them would be terribly cruel and insensitive of me. i did it HUN and here is a proof
but if your ready to read all then raise your hand
this was said from a (was an athiest women )
consider this. If a person opposes even the possibility of there being a God, then any evidence can be rationalized or explained away. It is like if someone refuses to believe that people have walked on the moon, then no amount of information is going to change their thinking. Photographs of astronauts walking on the moon, interviews with the astronauts, moon rocks...all the evidence would be worthless, because the person has already concluded that people cannot go to the moon.
for those who want to know God if he is there, he says, "You will seek me and find me; when you seek me with all your heart, I will be found by you."2 Before you look at the facts surrounding God's existence, ask yourself, If God does exist, would I want to know him? Here then, are some reasons to consider...
1. Does God exist? The complexity of our planet points to a deliberate Designer who not only created our universe, but sustains it today.
Many examples showing God's design could be given, possibly with no end. But here are a few: The Earth...its size is perfect. The Earth's size and corresponding gravity holds a thin layer of mostly nitrogen and oxygen gases, only extending about 50 miles above the Earth's surface. If Earth were smaller, an atmosphere would be impossible, like the planet Mercury. If Earth were larger, its atmosphere would contain free hydrogen, like Jupiter.3 Earth is the only known planet equipped with an atmosphere of the right mixture of gases to sustain plant, animal and human life.
../pics/isthere2NEW.gif The Earth is located the right distance from the sun. Consider the temperature swings we encounter, roughly -30 degrees to +120 degrees. If the Earth were any further away from the sun, we would all freeze. Any closer and we would burn up. Even a fractional variance in the Earth's position to the sun would make life on Earth impossible. The Earth remains this perfect distance from the sun while it rotates around the sun at a speed of nearly 67,000 mph. It is also rotating on its axis, allowing the entire surface of the Earth to be properly warmed and cooled every day.
And our moon is the perfect size and distance from the Earth for its gravitational pull. The moon creates important ocean tides and movement so ocean waters do not stagnate, and yet it restrains our massive oceans from spilling over across the continents.
Water...colorless, odorless and without taste, and yet no living thing can survive without it. Plants, animals and human beings consist mostly of water (about two-thirds of the human body is water). You'll see why the characteristics of water are uniquely suited to life:
It has an unusually high boiling point and freezing point. Water allows us to live in an environment of fluctuating temperature changes, while keeping our bodies a steady 98.6 degrees.
Water is a universal solvent. This property of water means that thousands of chemicals, minerals and nutrients can be carried throughout our bodies and into the smallest blood vessels.
Water is also chemically neutral. Without affecting the makeup of the substances it carries, water enables food, medicines and minerals to be absorbed and used by the body.
Water has a unique surface tension. Water in plants can therefore flow upward against gravity, bringing life-giving water and nutrients to the top of even the tallest trees.
Water freezes from the top down and floats, so fish can live in the winter.
Ninety-seven percent of the Earth's water is in the oceans. But on our Earth, there is a system designed which removes salt from the water and then distributes that water throughout the globe. Evaporation takes the ocean waters, leaving the salt, and forms clouds which are easily moved by the wind to disperse water over the land, for vegetation, animals and people. It is a system of purification and supply that sustains life on this planet, a system of recycled and reused water.
2. Does God exist? The human brain's complexity shows a higher intelligence behind it.
The human brain...simultaneously processes an amazing amount of information. Your brain takes in all the colors and objects you see, the temperature around you, the pressure of your feet against the floor, the sounds around you, the dryness of your mouth, even the texture of your keyboard. Your brain holds and processes all your emotions, thoughts and memories. At the same time your brain keeps track of the ongoing functions of your body like your breathing pattern, eyelid movement, hunger and movement of the muscles in your hands.
../pics/isthere4NEW.jpg The human brain processes more than a million messages a second.
Your brain weighs the importance of all this data, filtering out the relatively unimportant. This screening function is what allows you to focus and operate effectively in your world. A brain that deals with more than a million pieces of information every second, while evaluating its importance and allowing you to act on the most pertinent information... did it come about just by chance? Was it merely biological causes, perfectly forming the right tissue, blood flow, neurons, structure? An astounding an organ that it is, it surpasses being functional. There is an intelligence to it, the ability to reason, feel, move and relate. How does one explain the human brain.
3. Does God exist? "Chance" or "natural causes" are insufficient explanations.
The alternative to God existing is that all that exists around us came about by natural cause and random chance. It someone is rolling dice, the odds of rolling a pair of sixes is one thing. But the odds of spots appearing on blank dice is something else. Pasteur proved centuries ago (and science still confirms it) that life cannot arise from non-life. Where did human, animal, plant life come from? Also, natural causes are an inadequate explanation for the amount of precise information contained in human DNA. A person who discounts God is left with the conclusion that all of this came about without cause, without design, and is merely good fortune. It is intellectually wanting to observe intricate design and attribute it to luck.
4. Does God exist? To state with certainty that there is no God, a person has to ignore the passion of an enormously vast number of people who are convinced that there is a God.
This is not to say that if enough people believe something it is therefore true. Science, for example, have discovered new truths about the universe which overruled previous conclusions. But as science has progressed, no scientific discovery has countered the numerical likelihood of an intelligent mind being behind it all. In fact, the more science discovers about human life and the universe, the more complex and precisely designed we realize these to be. Rather than pointing away from God, evidence mounts further toward an intelligent source. But objective evidence is not all. There is a much larger issue. Throughout history, billions of people in the world have attested to their firm, core convictions about God's existence--arrived at from their subjective, personal relationship with God. Millions today could give detailed account of their experience with God. They would point to answered prayer and specific, amazing ways God has met their needs, and guided them through important personal decisions. They would offer, not only a description of their beliefs, but detailed reports of God's actions in their lives. Many are sure that a loving God exists and has shown himself to be faithful to them. If you are a skeptic, can you say with certainty: "I am absolutely right and they all are wrong about God"?
We know God exists because he pursues us. He is constantly initiating and seeking for us to come to him.
this was said from a (was an athiest women )
I was an atheist at one time. And like most atheists, the issue of people believing in God bothered me greatly. What is it about atheists that we would spend so much time, attention, and energy refuting something that we don't believe even exists?! What causes us to do that? When I was an atheist, I attributed my intentions as caring for those poor, disillusioned people...to help them realize their hope was completely ill-founded. To be honest, I also had another motive. As I challenged those who believed in God, I was deeply curious to see if they could convince me otherwise. Part of my quest was to become free from the question of God. If I could conclusively prove to believers that they were wrong, then the issue is off the table, and I would be free to go about my life.
../pics/isthereSUNSET.jpgI didn't realize that the reason the topic of God weighed so heavily on my mind, was because God was pressing the issue. I have come to find out that God wants to be known. He created us with the intention that we would know him. He has surrounded us with evidence of himself and he keeps the question of his existence squarely before us. It was as if I couldn't escape thinking about the possibility of God. In fact, the day I chose to acknowledge God's existence, my prayer began with, "Ok, you win..." It might be that the underlying reason atheists are bothered by people believing in God is because God is actively pursuing them.
I am not the only one who has experienced this. Malcolm Muggeridge, socialist and philosophical author, wrote, "I had a notion that somehow, besides questing, I was being pursued." C.S. Lewis said he remembered, "...night after night, feeling whenever my mind lifted even for a second from my work, the steady, unrelenting approach of Him whom I so earnestly desired not to meet. I gave in, and admitted that God was God, and knelt and prayed: perhaps, that night, the most dejected and reluctant convert in all of England."
Lewis went on to write a book titled, "Surprised by Joy" as a result of knowing God. I too had no expectations other than rightfully admitting God's existence. Yet over the following several months, I became amazed by his love for me.
and i hope you got that
even tho there are loads of more reason to believe :D

When it's written in proper English, yes, it makes perfect sense.
I did read it all, and that was my response, and I'm right. Hell, you proved that I'm right in what you posted. Do I need to quote you, or can you figure it out for yourself?
Um...that's what an opinion is, hun. We all have different ones. You don't want to agree with mine, so by your logic, you're just as close-minded as I am. However, I can prove that I'm not. Let's do that, shall we?
there is a god
I don't believe in God, but I'm never going to say, "God is bullshit!" because that's not a wise thing to do. When you accept something as completely, 100% impossible, you've just made yourself that much more ignorant and close-minded. I don't believe in him, but I suppose there's a 0.000000001% chance of him existing, only because we don't know everything about the universe, and assuming we do is ridiculous.
Yup, I can see how close-minded I'm being in comparison to you. I should be just like you, you're so open-minded!

I agree, although as Kate knows I am hardly a good judge when it comes to hair :P.
To get this back on topic I realise I have never expressed my opinion on a God. In my life I have always looked at religion from the outside, my family was not religous, so the choice was mine. There are so many religions, and from my point of view any of them could be right, but all of them could also be wrong.
I have never felt a presense was watching over me, and my life hardly runs smoothly. Even when I recieve a what you might call "grace", it is small and usually in the minority.
There are lots of reasons I can say, but to some it up, rationally I think no God, or anything similar exists.

Well, I already expressed my opinion, so there isn't much more for me to say. Except: I grew up in an entirely Christian family, but, thankfully, I'm not Christian.
I should go, I still haven't eaten today. Talk to ya'll later.

Though I personally have my issues with Judism and Christianity and some other religions; I still maintain a feeling of respect toward them and their followers.
When someone condemns your religion, you dont respect their opinion.
Being offended is a sign of weakness. Condemning someone's religion is also a sign of weakness. No I dont get offended, i shake the dust off my feet and move on. :D

Want me to be honest?
I pity people who believe the lies of religion, they dedicate their whole lives to a book that we dont even know is legitimate.

Well it all boils down to personal belief doesn't it? There is no proof that God exists nor is there any proof to show that He doesn't. If believing in a a Supreme Being makes individuals better, then so be it. It's their choice.

That is not the point; if I said that I believed in a giant levitating stack of waffles, I would not expect anyone to take me seriously; just because they cannot prove it does not exist.
Christians here should be using things such as the coincidence argument. Which scientifically states that everything is just biologically right for humans to live, and for the big bang to create planets. If they can't argue like that then they should not be in the debate section. As telling me that it just feels right does not justify the existance of a God.

you should have time to read this it may help ya
why not i have more than 300 reason to believe in god
The problems you face will either defeat you or develop you - depending on how you respond to them.
Unfortunately, most people fail to see how God wants to use problems for good in their lives.
They react foolishly and resent their problems rather than pausing to consider what benefit they might bring.
Here are five ways God wants to use the problems in your life:
1. God uses problems to DIRECT you.
Sometimes God must light a fire under you to get
you moving. Problems often point us in a new direction and
motivate us to change. Is God trying to get your attention? "Sometimes it
takes a painful situation to make us change our ways."
Proverbs 20:30
2. God uses problems to INSPECT you.
People are like tea bags...if you want to know what's inside
them, just drop them into hot ever water! Has God tested
your faith with a problem What do problems reveal about
you? "When you have many kinds of troubles, you
should be full of joy, because you know that these troubles test
your faith, and this will give you patience."
James 1:2-3
3. God uses problems to CORRECT you.
Some lessons we learn only through pain and failure. It's
likely that as a child your parents told you not to touch a
hot stove. But you probably learned by being burned.
Sometimes we only learn the value of something...health,
money, a relationship... by losing it. "It was the best thing
that could have happened to me, for it taught me to pay attention to your laws."
Psalm 119:71-72
4. God uses problems to PROTECT you.
A problem can be a blessing in disguise if it prevents you from
being harmed by something more serious. Last year a friend
was fired for refusing to do something unethical that his boss
had asked him to do. His unemployment was a problem - but
it saved him from being convicted and sent to prison a year
later when management's actions were eventually discovered.
"You intended to harm me, but God intended it for good...
Genesis 50:20
5. God uses problems to PERFECTyou.
Problems, when responded to correctly, are character builders.
God is far more interested in your character than your comfort.
Your relationship to God and your character are the only two
things you're going to take with you into eternity. "We can rejoice when we run into problems...
they help us learn to be patient. And patience develops strength of
character in us and helps us trust God more each time we use it until finally our
hope and faith are strong and steady."
Romans 5:3-4
Here's the point:
God is at work in your life - even when you do not recognize it or understand it.
But it's much easier and profitable when you cooperate with Him.
"Success can be measured not only in achievements, but in lessons learned,
lives touched and moments shared along the way "
just think about the universe would it just suddenly appear out of nowhere their must be reason that there is universe and how did human animals and plant's exsits ?

and syria believe me when i say "your stupidly dumb"
it's like some people say they will not believe in god until they see him
then would you believe in me if you see me
would you no believe in queen victoria until you see her face to face
would you not believe in the wind until you see it
i feel in god every time somtihng good or bad happens to me
God Is an Invisible, Personal, Living, and Active Spirit
Metaphysically, God Is Self-existent, Eternal, and Unchanging
All other spirits are created and so have a beginning. They owe their existence to another. God does not depend upon the world or anyone in it for his existence. The world depends on God for its .
God's life is from within himself, not anything that had a beginning in the space-time world. God has no beginning, period of growth, old age, or end.
give me 10 reasons why you donn't believe
i'll give you 20 why you should believe :)
this is wrote by a christian person
Christians or anybody that believes in God have seen the miracles and the unexplainable things in life and attributed it to a higher "divine" power. Athiests on the other hand go through life ignoring the miracles of life and complaining about life is a hell and reality blows. (hence, they do drugs and alcohol to escape the "reality" they have created for themselves but it only helps to make the situation worse)
I on the other hand believe that you make your hell and heaven. Christians have made their God so they can go to heaven. And Athiests have made their "reality" to live in hell.
(I live in a wonderful place called planet earth where people like Christians and Athiests exist.)
(athiest used to be christian until they felt that there is no need to believe in god..so they become athiest)
Why don't people believe in God?
Various reasons...
(a) for some reason they might think it is stupid to believe in God
(b) they may have had a negative experience with a person who called themself a Christian
(c) they might be calling themselves an atheist to irritate their parents, or Christians etc
(d) if they had bad experiences with their father -- an absentee father -- or a physically or verbally abusive father -- that could turn them off to our heavenly father
(e) they may not realize that there is evidence for the existence of God.
god is the beginning of the universe

I could think of hundreds of reasons that I can say to show that God doesn't exist. I am not going to state them all; let alone copy and paste them from the internet.
Also don't say "who created the ozone layer?", we aren't scientists here but there will be a scientific explanation for it.
Here is the wiki for creation of the Ozone http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ozone_layer#Origin_of_ozone .
