what do you think makes people so racist? is it because they're just arrogant? maybe intimidated by different coloured people? Or like my grandad :sigh: just not used to a multi-cultural society, like comparing England around the world war ll time, when there were mostly whites.

bella

i think its a little bit of everything arrogance, intimidation, and because they grew up in a different generation their used to thinking in a certain way. don't worry my grandpa is like that too "sigh"

i know a lot of people who are highley racist, and like ya say in the older generations, they were extremely racist, which passes down t there children and so on, my nans racist, and other close people t me, but i still love them more than anything

Yeah, I think the older generation are often racist, but by listening to racist views swags you to recist way of thoughts too, so it's not good really.

I personally don't feel any hatred to other skin colours, I mean, it's only skin. It's not like they're alien, they're still people too.

But from what I've heard people close to me say, I kinda guess I agree too, with the whole 'they come to this country and sponge off everyone elses' taxes' thing. If people move to this country they should work like everyone else, not be treated as higher class or whatever. It's unfair.

But yeah, just my views :hmmm:

BleedBlack
September 12th '05, 08:24 AM
Hmm...i cant tolerate when people are being recist. everyones intitles to their own opinions of people but u know, everyone is human & should all have the same treatment.

nat the thing u said about them coming into the country and living off other peoples tax's and stuff... well over in australia, we have people like that who are australian and live off all the hard workers tax's. so thats not really an issue over here.

i do think the generation thing has a big deal with why people are racist though

I can't understand racist people really. Might be because I have a few friends who are black and I love them to pieces. They need to learn to look beyond the skin at what is inside.

Lmao.. Fairies <3

But yeah, I get you BleedBlack.. But there are people in England like that too I guess. But it's how I've been brought up around parents who work damn hard for all the money they can, and then they say how bad it is that even more people are coming into the country and taking all the 'freebies' or whatever. Though some English people are out for all they can get, so everyone's as much to blame as eachother.

racism is horrible probably one of the worst types of bullying anyone could do and it can be prevented but i don't think it will ever go away. Its just a reality we have to face in our society and i think if people stand up for what they believe in and help each other out than this problem will occur less. I know personally my parents have a lot of strong beliefs especially being situated in Canada where some people of specific cultures get a lot of things for free like university, they don't have to pay taxes on some things (reserves) so i think that everyone is entitled to their opinion just not to a point where their dictating it. i think generation has something to do with it not maybe a lot with younger people but with the older generation i think. Well thats my spiel

A lot of the older generation seem to have no problem with people of different race. In Yr 5 we went to sing at a nursing home, and then went off into pairs to meet with the elderly. And everyone we went to they only paid attention to me, asking me what country i was from and all, and completly ignored my friend whos Aussie. And a lot of them are really nice...
Though i have met the odd one whos told me to "Go back to your own country" i would of said something if she had more of a life then hanging outside a church telling me off.

I know so many racist people. An non of them are older than 18. There's been lots of incidents involving fights with asians that have made them racist. thats the main reason. Did anybody see that Jerrie springer with the racist family that hated jews?!!? God, it was awful. Jerry Springers a jew and the kids said i'd kill you daughter in a second if I had the chance, and then the Dad started on Told Jerry, It just wernt on.

He just remained calm and told the audience to stop booing, and then the guy said loads of stuff bout jews n the war. And jerry got a bit angry but tried to stay calm. And then the guy went for him and nearly got killed by all the body guards.

Wow, that's the biggest bunch of bullshit I've ever read on the internet. Racism is just ignorance towards other races. It's also generally not just black & white. They're finding more & more people these days prejudice towards people of Asian & Middle Eastern ethicinity due to suicide bombers, but it's one thing the world will never get rid of.

What annoys me most is people who start yelling "racist" whenever ANYTHING happens. Even just a low homework grade, that was given coz their h/w sucked, not coz of their race. And people in my school don't even know what racism is. I had to explain to some guys that racism is being OFFENSIVE about someone's race, not just vaguley mentioning it. Hell, some guys here start over-reacting if you even mention the COLOUR black. And that's loadsa people, black, white, asian, mixed-race. They just need to get a life. And a dictionary.

I hate racist people. Everyone is equal and we all deserve to be treated the same.

Take the 7/7 attack for instance. Now, many people think that just because the muslims were the cause of the attack, that eveyr muslim wants to kill all british people in suicide attempts. Justa few stupid acts of one race leads to many people thinking the whole race is like that. It's disgusting.

hey, i agree, if someone from a certain group does something wrong it effects everyone. As you said before everyone blamed the muslim race but to be hoenst that isnt fair at all. I think racism is discusting but i also believe that we will never get rid of it, the society we are brought up in is so different to how it used to be, i think we're beyong help on this matter.

Coming from an age skipping house (i live with my grandparents) old past things often come into play... racism often comes out of the mouths of my legal guardians most of which make me want to cry because it is not 20 years ago and even if it was i would have no absolutely no tolerence for that kindof speaking in my house, but then again it isnt my house. But the fact that this is still going on in our country is appauling. Most of it is from adults, so what is next you gonna rip on barney because he's purple.

One problem I've experience is the fact many people don't know the boundaries of racism. many people have been racist to me without realising it. No particular place can be called more racist that the next, but unfortunately, racism exists everywhere, not just white against black. Look at zimbabwe for example. If you're white, you get your land taken away and if you're lucky, you get to keep your life.

I haven't read all the posts, but I will stick in my opinion.

Racism, I'm sure we can all agree, is a bad thing. However, my definition of racism is acting on negative prejudices. For instance, saying all black people are stupid, would be racist. And I certainly do not agree with that statement. However, what I do resent is this PC culture where everyone tries to brush it under the carpet. A multi-cultural society should be about sharing different ideas, beliefs and methods which come from these different races. By immediately demonising any notion that negros, asians and the like are all the same, aren't we destroying multi-culture itself?

Richiecroft
March 9th '06, 07:50 PM
Multi-Culture is the 21st century!

If anyone disagrees then im sorry but why are you still here, throughout my life ive met loads of different kinds of people, and to me its not what colour skin they've got or if they've got six toes or whatever, its the person inside them that counts. You can easily tell when you meet someone what their like, wether thier horrible, rude or just plain stupid, but my opinion is don't judge someone by what they look like, anyone agree ??

NATAL!E
March 9th '06, 07:52 PM
I can't really remember if I've posted in this thread or not. =/

Anyways. As I have grown up, established my own views and ideas, it's become more apparent to me as an individual how unacceptable racism is in everyday life. I know a lot of people who are very racist, and in many cases, it's the way they've been brought up, with those kind of view points etched into their brain from being little kids.

In my opinion, everyone's equal. There should be nothing in life to say a certain race of people are allowed to do something, but another race isn't. It's unjust and unfair. Yes, I know some people are bad, but that is their conscience and choosing. If I wanted to go around causing harm to people, then I could - But it's the case of not wanting to which stops me.

I could never walk down the road and say something, gesture or look at someone in a way which was racist or nasty, if I didn't know them and had no reason to. people which do those kind of things really sicken me. Hell, I even get a form a racist abuse off some inconsiderate people, when I'm blatantly the same race as them, which is just stupid. Just because I look different to them, they automatially assume I'm a different race etc.

But really, where does that come into it? If I had dark skin, that shouldn't make any difference what so ever to the person I was inside.

I just think racism is something which people cannot and refuse to let go. I don't know why or how, but I just know it's something which causes a lot of unneccessary hurt to people and it's very wrong, and it's something I would never forcefully co-operate in.

God.

I agree, but I define multiculturalism as recognising that people are different, rather than simply saying 'we're all the same.' We all deserve to be treated equally of course, but for some people this may take every different actions to others. You almost contradict yourself in the last two sentences there, and that's the key point.

We're all different, but we're all the same.

You clearly don't understand the concept of Racism. FACT.

"Racism is a phenomenon in which people mistreat, discriminate against, dislike or even hate, have disdain for, or regard as inferior other people based on their real or perceived race. The term is almost always used pejoratively, with accusations of racism being very common but with few describing themselves as racist. The term racialism is sometimes favored as a less negative term by those who hold certain beliefs about other races which they believe to be scientifically justified.
