{ I have now been filmed for a documentary which will be aired on TV }

I'm 17 years old and have type one diabetes which you can find out more about here. (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Diabetes_type_1)

Trying not to go too hard on the sugar as a Diabetic sugar free products sounded like a good idea. Still being able to have all the sweetness.

I started having sugar free products when I was very young around 9years old. When I was in year 6 at school I noticed that for some reason I was getting anxious and was having bowl/stomach pains, strange behaviour, loss of attention, memory loss, phobias and food cravings and much more.

When I got into high school this was taking its toll on me socially, physically, and was effecting my education. The pains I would get were terrible and always at the wrong times. I didn't like going places and preferred to stay at home, I lost a lot of days off school.

I ended up dropping out of school after year 10 finished which was my own choice as I wanted to do TAFE. At this point I was in a terrible state I felt like I was dieing every day I was aggressive and lost friends. I had already gone and seen a doctor who told me I had IBS which stands for irritable bowl syndrome which is like a vicious cycle.. you worry about the pains happening so they happen more. (It's caused by stress.)
I was just fed up and couldn't take it anymore so I tried really hard to find a "cure" to this IBS thing which was only one of my problems. I didn't find anything.. but what I did find was a site that said IBS and diabetes.

The site didn't have much on it just a little blurb about managing diabetes and IBS... but it made me wonder WHY having diabetes would increase the chance of having IBS.
I then thought of sugar free products and it just clicked so I grabbed a can of diet coke and looked at the ingredients. There was nothing unusual at first glance but then I saw this phenylalanine thing which I put into google which then led to me finding out about Aspartame. (Australian products with aspartame inside will state "contains phenylalanine")

One quick google search about Aspartame and it was controversial broken loose. Hate sites, doctor sites, government sites covering up the truth. Apparently my heath could of actually got worse than it already was. From brain tumours to death.
I then cut all sugar free products out of my life which was mainly sugar free chewing gum and diet soft drinks.

Within a week I started getting my heath back... It's like I lost 5 important years of my life to aspartame and I wish I could have them back with full health.
Hitting almost 1year without aspartame now and no longer have IBS, (which is "incurable") have perfect health my brain chemistry has returned to normal and I'm feeling great!

Products to avoid are ANY sugar free product, if its not real sugar... stay away. Take note that most chewing gum is sugar free.

I would love to hear what you have to say about this =)

I was able to get results from 2 close friends. One was a light user and only chewed some sugar free gum every now and then.

Not enough to cause harm right?
Think again...

When he stoped he noticed he was mentally quicker and on the ball more.

My other friend had a lot of pepsi max for a while and often has other sugar free products said he had similar things to what was happening to me.

And Alice I look forward to sharing my interesting life with everyone here.

By the way I live in Australia in New South Wales close to the city Sydney if you are wondering where I am =)

I'm glad I did too! It's truely changed my life :)

I found a great page that has a list of people effected by aspartame

http://www.holisticmed.com/aspartame/adverse.txt

If you guys have ideas about action you think I should take I would appreciate it. I am thinking of writing a book on the topic and have a good title in mind. However there are a lot of legal issues with that and im not sure I have enough info to write a whole book.

UPDATE - I'LL BE ON NZ TV IN PRIMETIME AND MAYBE SBS/ABC

It's true. I have taken this further than you can imagine and have had a film crew interview me for their documentary.

Because of my larger involvement in this I've come across some sceptics or people who believe nothing is wrong with them when they take sugar free.

Fact is, It's true, some people will not get as bad reactions as others HOWEVER that doesn't mean long-term damage isn't being done. Also these people are still getting the food cravings caused by aspartame. Often these people just don't put 2 and 2 together to see that what they are putting into their bodies is the cause of their poor health.

There has been a 10% rise in brain tumours (And getting worse) which occurred the same time aspartame was released into the market. This is the NUMBER 1 concern about aspartame.

Thank you for the insight. Definitely ganna cut out the sugar free stuff now. My blood sugar has been insane but the drs. refuse to diagnos it as diabetes. Maybe if i cut out those products it will become regular now.

Sugarfree food as a whole isn't bad, sweetners such as acesulfame K and sucralose are unlikely to have such an effect because they are made from sugar itself. Aspartame however has been linked to symntons such as yours, and it has even been named as a contributor to some forms of cancer.

Its fair to say aspartame is bad, but blanket condeming all sweetners is a bit forward.
