I think the "key" to being a good artist for anyone is to be inspired, have a "vision" and dont stop until you feel you've achieved it. Like, I cant make anything good unless I really feel it.

MuteCow seemed to insinuate it. I used tools in my school jewelry class, and I'm working on collecting my own tools and equipment. Hopefully though, I can get into CCS and use their supplies.
