Should there be a law to let people have sex under 16

should the law for having sex under 16 be changed to being able to have sex younger then that ? i think it should be changed to being able to have sex younger then 16!!

i think the legal age she be upped to 18, cuz then that way ppl would have it at the age of 16, if u get my point, the higher the restricted the higher age they will be

i think it should be lowered to 13 and over because i think when you get to a teenager your old enough to make your own decisions and the goverment and parents shouldn't try to stop teenagers doing certain things if the teenagers know their ready.

Nah tbh, its bad enough as it is.

I mean come on, 13, hell people are already doin it around 12 nowdays, just aint right. Ya bodies arnt made for it at that age, plus with girls naturally goin for older blokes it just makes it plain wrong lol.

No the law needs to stay.

13's way to early, yer 13 year olds can make there own decsisons. But 13's no age to ruin your life. If you had a kid at 13 thats it, thats your youth and most of your social life over.

The law sayin ya should only do it at 16 or over is the only thing that stops/slows down some people.

If the law said 13 then even younger would be doin it like 9 yr olds! because then its be "bad" and "naughty", and ya cant tell me thats acceptable.

Long as its safe and its a serious relationship then i dont see the massive problem I know its wrong but it was only recently in earths history that there were laws put on for generations its been when they feel like it.....

In Australia, while the law is unenforceable, it exists to stop older people having sex with people under the age of 16. While a 15 year old and a 17 year old may have sex, if the parents of the 15 year old find out, they can have the 17 year old charged with statutory rape and malicious handling of a minor.

Don't quote me, but I don't think the law can do anything about two people who are both under 16 having consensual sex.

yeah well i mean a law doesn't exactly stop a person from anything but i get your point about keeping it at 16 but its just going to keep going lower with the teenagers...but the law doesn't mean anything no one really takes notice to it if there underage and they "think" there ready they will do it. its the persons fault what happens to them after they do it and they regret it. i dont have a problem with other people lives...its up to them

This is a debate that particulally annoys me, people saying it should be a higher age, or a lower. Its ridiculous! I mean, if you lowered the age to 13, which is pathetic, then kids at the age of bloody 10 will wanna do it! Lets face it, most people "do it" younger than 16 because its wrong an your not allowd, its the same with drinking.
I dont see why the age should be highered to 18, as thats when you can do other stuff, at the age of 16 most people are mature enough to control their own actions.
I personally thing its a bit stupid when a girl at the age of 15 and a guy at the age of 16 have sex, and then get into trouble, its not as if the guy is way much older!
The people who came up with the law of having sex at the age of 16 more than likely did a lot of research into this, and figured it would be the best age, which i agree. Their not saying you HAVE to have sex at the age of 16, you can make your own choices, theres no reason why this should be changed.

i think, that 16 is an ok age, but if you lower it, as bob said you will get ppl at the age of around 9 doing it. OUr society has changed drastically in our generation, and its all because we are arrogant to the laws and we live our own life.

Years ago children wouldn't even dream about having sez until they were married (silly i know) but all though im all up for sex lol, i think people abuse it in a way. The dictionary deifinition says its how people show there love for each other, in our day an age its something you have to do when your flammin drunk, NOW come on, get in the real world, sex is sex, and i dont care what ppl think lol if the government realy cared they'd enforce this more, bk to my last topic, our government isnt interested in that , its interested in statistics and how good or bad they look!.

I do not believe the age of consent should be changed at all. If it was lowered from 16, then as everyone else has said, plenty of youngsters would be doing it, and it's not right (in my opinion). Girls bodies haven't developed properly at the age of 10 or even 13. 16 is a good enough age because we are starting to make our own decisions. We are at GCSE age where we have to be choosing where we want to go and what to study. We should be responsible enough to decide what we want to do.

If it was changed to 18 then practically no one would wait til that age. Sex has become something people do for fun or because they want to experience it. Most People don't wait until they're legal or are with someone who they want to be with for ever, they do it because they want to do it, and that's fair enough, they have made that decision.

If it was lowered, plenty of kids would be getting pregnat because they don't understand the ways and means of contraception and therefore would ruin their life. If it was changed to 18, you would get more people doing it underage, and it's just useless. In my eyes, 16 is a perfect age.

True, really no lower than late 15's should any girl be having sex, its just wrong for the reasons already mentioned.
Its also silly the blokes doin it then as well, probably makes em feel "manly". Well doin it at that age, and just for that one reason is as much unmanly as you can get lol, thats being a boy not a man, which is also a greatly misunderstood concept in the world of today.

16 or 18 is reyt enough, but as its at 16 then its best if it stays, any lower that that is just people being immature, and if so then they shouldnt be doing something such as having sex at all, i'm sure if the person looked back on it with more sense when they were older, they'd think a lot differently on it than when they did back then, though that depends on the person.

And with the thing about kids, hell most ADULTS probably have a hard time with a new kid, even though they may have a good house, income and a partner. But what about a 13 yr old girl who'se just gone bangin people and ended up with one, and even if she's still with the father then she probably wont be in a few years time as relationships dont really last at that age, now that brings more hardship on the kid, the mother, her own parents and anyone else, through having to put up with looking after a child at that age, it just aint right.
