    Question My website

Right I have a few websites. One of them contains lots of information.
I want a free solution. I want to put a database on the site which can be viewed and edited by others or at least other admins.
I have viewed the internet for solutions and they all have problems... too fancy, too complicated, costs too much, doesn't work with the site.

    thanks for your time.

    what ?
First, ur host needs to provide database support
most hosts do, and u just need to set it/activate it from the control panel
U cant have people have direct access to databases, so u usually create
some kinda forms/application written in php or asp to edit the database
If u just want a free databases, try mysql, its free, simple and easy
that last one depends on how much u know about databases though

Hm.. I think it won't be as simple as you might want it to be, although very simple once you know what you're doing (know PHP, MySQL, etc). Also it won't be free - there is no free database hosting. You should aim to pay at least ~5$/month. Search google for "mysql php hosting".

Btw what exactly do you want to accomplish?

I downloaded mysql and learned how to use it. I made a database in it... then I needed to get it onto the site somehow and while looking for that I came across zoho.com where you can create your own free applications (like databases) so I found exactly what I wanted, free and without needing to do any programming or other complicated stuff.

Most are free, though I'm not entirely sure that's what he wants.

In fact, from what I can gather, he wants to simple share and edit a database online. I see no real reason to ever do this though, unless, of course, he has like a staff workforce of thousands and wants to monitor employee details and pay rates etc. etc.

Why not just use something like Joomla or something which is a free php/mysql CMS or even a forum with staff access only.

Would help if you explained exactly what you want to do though, you're not really giving much away

In the past year I've started using Wordpress as a CMS so I'd recommend going for that. The ease of user is much great so the learning curve isn't as steep for first time users, the Administration area looks great, plugins are easy to roll out, as are updates.
