Apocalypse Now
Apocalypse Now is a Vietnam War film which is loosely based on the novel "Heart of Darkness" In my opinion it is the greatest movie of all time.
It is about a man named Captain Benjamin Willard(Martin Sheen) who is a part time assasin for the CIA. His latest assignment is to "terminate" a renegade Green Beret named Colonol Walter Kurtz(Marlon Brando) who has become a god among the tribes in Cambodia. He is sent down the Nung river along with four other soldiers. While traveling downriver they see the war in all its aspects. From victory through Colonol Kilgore(Robert Duvall) the leader of the 1st Air Cav to defeat and madness at Nu Mung Ba. When he finally reaches Kurtz, Willard must make a decision. Kill the man who wants the war to end or betray his country and join Kurtz.
Here is the theatrical trailer for the extended version:

Re: Apocalypse Now
Great film, but the Redux version is painful. There is so much unneeded, dull footage that it makes the 208 minute version of "The Seven Samurai" seem reasonably edited. And that is quite a disturbing prospect, as the film could have easily been cut to 120 or less.
Driven off of the board due to the evils of Islam and efforts to express my voicing of said evils.

Re: Apocalypse Now
The first hour of this film was good, "i love the smell of napalm in the morning" is a classic line. But once they started trying to find Marlon Brando in the jungle it started to drag and by the end i couldnt believe that i'd stuck with it. Most of the second half just seemed pointlessly boring.
Full Metal Jacket or Platoon are infinitely better in my opinion. We Were Soldiers with Mel Gibson is also pretty good.
