Correct. The actual conflict broke out between the Frenck and North Vietnamese in 1955.

In 1960 the U.S., South Vietnamese, South Korea, Thailand, and Australian SAS entered the war.

A cease fire was declared in 1974, but the North Vietnamese broke the cease fire with a full scale invasion of the South Vietnamese capital called Saigon.
