German's school system...advantage or not ?

Hi guys

I just want to know what you're thinking about the german school system...

Here is a little info in case you don't know how it looks like here:

We've got three types of school:
Hauptschule
Realschule
Gymnasium

Hauptschule is a school for students who aren't good
Realschule is for students who are average
and Gymnasium is for students who are above average

After primary ( normally ends when you're 11 ) the teachers decide in which school you have to go...

Some students who can't go to Realschule or Gymnasium may feel like a third class student and so do the Realschule students do...

What do you think ??? Should the system be reconsidered ????

This system doesn't sound too great really. I like going to a mainstream mixed school, because you get to socialise with every kind of person, no matter if they are clever or less clever.

And the level of intelligence doesn't always reflect ability.. Because I know of people who aren't so clever, but they do really well in life. Yet there's some people who are exceedingly clever do awful in life, because they have no concept of other people and their feelings.. This aspect is very important I think!

I think its right if the system is based on how they behave because in most cases its the students own fault!

however if its based on how smart they are then i think its wrong!

I see no problem with it. If students don't want the embarassment of being in Hauptschule then they should work their arses off to make sure it doesn't happen. At the end of the day, your education is what you make of it. If you let yourself settle for being a Hauptschule student, then that's where you belong.

It's a bollocks system. It categorises people and in some case embarrases people. Not right and not fair.

Yes it not really fair actually. Singapore's education system is also similar and I hate it. The best way is to mix the smart students and the average students together so they can learn from each other. If all average students are going to be put together, they will not be able to learn much.

I don't know about this one. Coming from someone who goes to a single sex grammar school it can sometimes get difficult. We are above the average level of teens at our age, yet if we get the lowest mark in the class(maybe, lets say, about 60%) in an exam, teachers put you down as if you are rubbish. Yet if you were in a comprehensive school, and you got the same mark, you'd be praised or whatever! Just because you are in the top, doesn't mean you get treated properly.

I can imagine the system processing some rather ignorant people tbh, the kind which are up their own arse thinking they're better than everyone else, merely because they're in the top schooling.

I dont see how its much different to most other schools.
U get put into classes depending on how smart u are.

Yeah, you're put into sets at school, but you're still socialising and mixing with other pupils who aren't at the same level as you, and it doesn't put the shame on you for not being as clever.

its stupid but i would agree to an above average skul because in schools the only people who get noticed are the 1s under achievein n the really smart pupils so movin the above average would give the teachers chance to concentrate on the average pupils and pull their grades up
