Default Review - Snakes on a Plane

Starring: Samuel L. Jackson, Julianna Margulies, Nathan Phillips, Rachel Blanchard, Flex Alexander, Kenan Thompson.
    Director: David R. Ellis
    Certificate: UK-15, USA-R, AUS-M, IRE-15A, CAN-14A
    Runtime: 105 Minutes
    Trailer: http://progressive.stream.aol.com/ne..._1A_700_dl.mov
    Official Site: http://www.snakesonaplane.com/

    The Plot:

When an innocent bystander witnesses a mob killing, FBI Agent Nelville Flynn (Jackson) takes him into protective custody until he can testify against the killer, however, the killer has other plans which involve hundreds of snakes being unleashed on a plane in the hope of either killing the witness or bringing the plane down due to the snakes eating through the wiring...

    What's Good:

The film never takes itself too seriously, and most of the time it is played for laughs. Even though the special effects on the snakes are terrible it just adds to the 'fun' factor of the film. Samuel L. Jacksons performance as the FBI agent is easily the best thing about the film though, the now infamous line: "I've had it with these motherf*ckin' snakes, on this motherf*ckin' plane!" actually made people in the cinema clap and cheer, something that i've never seen in a cinema before, the audience atmosphere is definitely something to experience in the films opening weekend, i think that the euphoria will die down pretty quickly, so try and see it ASAP. The film will probably even make you jump a few times too. Bare in mind that this film is also from the director of 'Final Destination 2' and anyone who has seen any of the FD films will know that the deaths in those movie are always so over the top that its actually funny, Snakes on a Plane is no different.

    What's Bad:

The story, come on, you can't expect a film called 'Snakes on a Plane' to have a decent story to it, it's by no means a terrible story, but it really just seems like an excuse for the snakes to be released on a plane. Also, the ending (while funny), doesn't give any real closure and the scriptwriters seem to just disregard the whole 'story' up to that point, leaving you thinking "what the hell" and then laughing as the credits roll. The acting from the other supporting actors is quite poor, and there is the stupid 'British' stereotype with one of the characters, whereby the Americans seem to think that we all speak with posh accents (newsflash! We dont!).

    Conclusion:

If you dont mind there being hardly any story and are up for a laugh, then i'd highly recommend it, don't expect there to be excellent special effects or acting though. This is a film that succeeds due to its stupidity factor alone. I can see that this film is destined to be a cult hit

    8/10

PS: If you'd have told me i'd be giving this film anything over 3/10 a week ago i would have laughed at you, lol.

Snakes on a plane was my favourite film last year. Great laugh and bits are quite shocking. There was a great atmosphere at the cinema when I watched it. Everyone clapped when Samuel l Jackson said "I've had it with these motherfuckin snakes on this motherfuckin plane!" ! Legendary!

I don't know if anyone has noticed, but in Woolworths in Hillsborough, you can get "Snakes on a Train" on DVD for £3.99, lol. Seriously.
