Angry I Work as a Cashier at a Pet Store...

Ok so, you read the title, now what do you think? Think it's easy? Think it's fun? Think it's the best job ever? Think again. This is my second job. The first one i've had was filing for a tax company. So I know what work's like. I've always wanted to work in a pet store. The only problem is, I got it. I got the job at the pet store, and I've actually survived working there for 10 months straight. I'm 17 years old, so I thought that was probably the best job for my age, you know. I'll be turning 18 the end of September, so I really want to get a job working in the city. For more $. After 10 months, they STILL pay me minimum wage, and I think I should get paid more. But ALL the employees get paid the same! This one girl who got the job when the store OPENED 4 years ago, just got fired yesterday. (Assist. Manager told me it was that she "wasn't following company policy.") I make less than $130 a week...and that was the summer. The average amount i've made during winter/spring was $75. Thats gay. Not to offend anyone with that saying, but putting it bluntly...thats what it is. On top of that, they are taking some of my hours because they are hiring new people. Thats just plain not fair. Even my MOM is pissed cus of that!!!

    :angered: :angered: :angered:

Everytime I walk into work, I ALWAYS get yelled at for something. "STAY at the register! Sweep the floor! Clean the sides of the register! (?!) Go put this away! Don't do that! Don't do this! Don't! Don't! Don't!!!!" I'm PISSED! It embarrasses me in front of the NEW employees! The ones I train!!! ESPECIALLY when they tell me "DON'T PLAY WITH THE ANIMALS!!! Put them away!" I mean, what am I working there for? I want to socially interact with animals! I can't believe this freakin company.

One more thing...in order to work at a pet store, the things you HAVE TO be experienced in, is knowlege. Haha yes, knowledge. Not just ANY knowledge, but the knowledge of ignorance. Customers come in, then ask if we have an item. You would ONLY know this if you went around the WHOLE store studying your stock! This isn't so bad, but then, when they ask you "Whats the difference between Science Diet Light and Pro Plan Weight Control?" You're mind goes completely blank. How the hell should YOU know?! This was NOT what I applied for the job for. All this ::excuse me:: shitty work, for a shitty MINIMUM WAGE!

Ok gotta go, class in half an hour. I would love to hear your comments. Thanks for reading!!!

If I was you I'd look out for a new job somewhere else. And apply for it. You don't really have anything to lose, and if you get it, tell them you've had a better offer and are leaving as soon as they'll let you. If not, just keep trying.

I know it's rich coming from me, as I work in a child labouring environment, with a bastard of a boss. But my manager is my saint and I have such a good time with the girls I work with and the lad who does the money side. So I have a good time, most of the time. And socialise and all that out of work hours.

But if you're truly unhappy, go for something else, even if it is only for a short while.

    Sounds like a shitty job.
    Even by you know, shittyjobstandards.
I'd look for a new job, and just put up with it for a little longer.
I don’t want any pushing, and I don’t want any shoving.
We’re gonna do this in an orderly manner.

If you don't like it, get a new one. If it's your only option and you need the job, see it through until you have another option.

    But quit whining. Please.

    stfu, he asked an opinion.

Jesus christ theres some stuck up people

But on a more lighter note more to the topic, I'd strongly suggest getting a new job, if theres anyone over 18 an they're still getting minimum wage, its some what illegal, it HAS to go up.

-"Clueless" the whole point of this forum is to out your opinions, frustrations, and problems. Stop shoving the concept of this forum aside.

-"FirstChild88" I guess most people have really given you the same advice so far, and I have exactly the same for you. Start looking online for jobs, or looking for other pet stores around your area.
God that really sucks that you got fired! I hope things will turn out better for you!! You obviously deserve better!

    xx

It might do you good that you get fired, as it will give you incentive to go out and find a job you want and like, rather than sticking with the one you have, and 'making do' with it. You weren't happy, they treated you bad, so why stay? It's meant in the least nasty way, but I think it's opened up so many doors for you now, and will probably give you the push to get a job you enjoy|!

Yes, ok. It has been 2 months. Two days after I got a job at "Dunkin Donuts". They pay me a LOT better (and i get tips!!!), the hours are better, it is a LOT easier for me in my opinion! Yeah, I applied for the job the day I got fierd. I didnt put on the application that I got fired, i kinda lied, but it was kinda true....haha I said that they wouldnt let me change my hours around for school so I quit. Partially true, but partially not. I just turned 18, they're not gunna call the sh** hole i used to work at and get all my details. There wasn't even a phone number slot for my old job on the application anyway. Hehe. So...yeah. I feel rich now. I got more than i ever had in my bank account rite now, which makes me feel really satisfied and un-stressed. Thanks for you guy's thoughts. And I accept your apology, Clueless. =)
